The Tudor Beasts Series from The Royal Mint focuses on the heraldic beasts prominent during the reign of the House of Tudor. The Tudors controlled the English throne from the ascension of Henry Tudor in 1485 until the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603. During this era, the most tumultuous reign was that of King Henry VIII. He was responsible for the adoption of many of the 10 heraldic beasts featured in this series.

In total, there were five Tudor monarchs between 1485 and 1603. Henry Tudor established the dynasty after the Wars of the Roses and reigned as King Henry VII. His son, King Henry VIII, is one of the two most notable monarchs from the dynasty. Henry VIII was succeeded by three of his children: King Edward VI, Queen Mary, and Queen Elizabeth I.
