Like so many other programs throughout the Commonwealth of Nations, the Royal Canadian Mint’s Gold Maple Leaf Series has never seen another monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse of its issues. Starting in 2024, Her Late Majesty’s effigy was retired as a new bust of King Charles III comes to Canadian currency.
Sheets of 20 coins.
46th release of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf.
Contains 1/4 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
Bears a face value of $10 (CAD) backed by the federal government of Canada.
The obverse features King Charles III. On the reverse is the iconic sugar maple leaf.
Since 1990, the Royal Canadian Mint has created its own portraits of the reigning monarch for Canadian currency, including its bullion collections. The 2023 Maple Leaf Series used Her Late Majesty’s effigy one final time rather than using the Royal Mint’s new bust of King Charles III to provide time for Canadian artists to come up with a bust honoring the new king.
The obverse of the 2025 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin features the bust of His Majesty King Charles III. The King is shown here in left-profile relief, a change in orientation from his mother who was always captured in right-profile relief during her reign. It is customary for monarch portraits to change orientation when a new monarch comes to the throne.
On the reverse side of 2025 1/4 oz Gold Maple Leaf Coins is Walter Ott’s depiction of the sugar maple leaf. The national emblem of Canada graces countless governmental seals and the national flag. Here, it is shown in natural light with beautiful attention to its natural details
