The gold coins for sale in the South African Krugerrand Series consist of four weights for investors each year. Though the series spent its first decade-plus in production with only a 1 oz gold coin, fractional-ounce gold was added to the series in 1980. This was a point in time that most other modern bullion programs didn’t even exist, much less with fractional-ounce gold available as an option.
Tubes of 15 coins. 59th year of issue for the Gold Krugerrand and the 46th issue of 1/2 oz Gold Krugerrand Coins.
Contains 1/2 Troy oz of actual gold content. The obverse features Paul Kruger. On the reverse is the Springbok antelope.
South African Gold Krugerrand coins debuted well before any other gold bullion coin. Introduced in 1967, the Krugerrand was available until 1979 with just a 1 oz gold coin. In 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Maple Leaf as a competing option for investors. In 1980, the South African Mint responded with the first-ever fractional-ounce gold coins. Among them was the 1/2 oz Gold Krugerrand.
The obverse of 2026 South African Gold Krugerrand Coins features a portrait of Paul Kruger. Known affectionately to South Africans by the name Oom Paul, Afrikaans for Uncle Paul, he was an influential figure in South African during the late-19th century and would serve as President of the South African Republic. The effigy shown here first debuted in the 1890s on gold coins of the South African Pound.
On the reverse of 2026 1/2 oz Gold Krugerrand Coins is an image of the Springbok antelope. Native to various nations throughout southern Africa, the Springbok is the official symbol of the modern Republic of South Africa and has appeared on Krugerrands since 1967.
