Lady Liberty on the obverse. American bald eagle on the reverse.
Introduced in 1916, the Walking Liberty design was created by Adolph A. Weinman. This was one of two designs he submitted to the United States Mint in 1916 for consideration on American silver coins. In the end, his designs were chosen for two different denominations.
The image shown here was completed for the US Half Dollar coin and would feature on that denomination through 1947. In 1986, the United States Mint reintroduced the design on the obverse of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin. It remains on the obverse of the nation’s official silver bullion coin to this day.
Lady Liberty is on the obverse of 1/10 oz Walking Liberty Silver Rounds. This design shows Liberty in left-profile relief with the American flag draped around her figure. The field includes a depiction of Liberty walking toward the sun with branches of oak and laurel in her left hand.
An American bald eagle is shown in the reverse field of SilverTowne Walking Liberty Silver Rounds. This design shows the bald eagle in left-profile relief perched on an olive branch as it flexes its wings upward.
