The United States flag has evolved significantly since the nation’s founding. The first official flag, adopted on June 14, 1777, featured thirteen alternating red and white stripes and thirteen white stars on a blue canton, representing the original thirteen colonies. SilverTowne prominently features the nation’s official flag in its newest divisible silver bar design.

Each 1 oz SilverTowne Divisible American Flag Silver Bar is available here with a protective plastic flip. This divisible silver bar is ideal for any collector, investor, or even prepper. It features a singular design on the reverse, capturing the modern American flag, with the bar easily divided by hand into either two 1/2 oz silver bars or down to four 1/4 oz silver bars. Please note that while each quarter piece features its own hallmarks and mint mark, the American flag design breaks out to include the field of stars in one quarter and stripes from the flag in the other three.
As new states joined the Union, Congress initially added both stars and stripes for each state, but this proved impractical after the flag reached fifteen stars and stripes in 1795. The Flag Act of 1818 established the current design principle: thirteen stripes to honor the original colonies and one star for each state, with new stars added on July 4th following a state’s admission.
