Motor Mouth Quits!

Big Mouth Arianna Huffington, the darling of the Republicans, has quit, and is now urging everyone to vote “NO” on the recall in California.  “Anything but Arnold,” is her plea.  Arnold is ahead, and will probably win, and no thanks to his looks or ability, but they are certainly better than hers.  The one who should win, McClintock, won’t, and it is because he and Arnold have two different opinions about one item, and that is the devout Republican creed, to at every turn, to urge the legislation of morality, in this case to be “pro life.”  I am pro life.  I love life, but this isn’t what is meant by being “pro life” to a Republican.  It means to oppose abortion, and legislate it into illegality.  I love a bumper strip I once saw, which said, “Don’t like abortion?  Don’t have one.”  That sums it up as far as I am concerned.  How about, “Don’t like Presbyterians?  Don’t be one,” or Don’t like Chevys?  Don’t buy one.” Personal actions, as long as they harm no one, should be no one’s business but the one who is concerned with them.  Don’t rehearse the murder thing with me, because it won’t fly.  How can an unborn fetus be “murdered?”  Is it life?  Probably, but how can it be stopped?  Is it possible to stop prostitution, adultery, homosexuality, drugs, smoking, obesity, or a hundred other things I would never indulge in?  No, so why try?  If it is murder for a mother to abort her unborn, let her conscience and her God deal with it, not Republicans.  “When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns,” and “When abortion is outlawed, only back alley practitioners, self inflicted coat hanger operations, and other hideous actions will perform abortions.”  No law will change personal conduct which can be done in secret, so why try?  I am not passing judgment on the sanctity or evil of abortion, only pointing out that legislating, or attempting to legislate morality, is doomed to fail, and will always cost the morons who attempt to do so, votes. Want to win Republicans?  Then drop the “pro life” stance, and let everyone be answerable to their own conscience and God; not to you.  As the old Budweiser commercials used to say, “Live life, every golden minute of it….drink Budweiser.”  How about “Live life, every golden moment of it…mind your own business?”  And this includes doing the same thing in nations around the world.  Go Cubbies!
