Papers Please

I am a World War II fan, even though we should never have gotten into it. It has been called the “last good war’” and I have serious doubts about that. No war is a “good war.” WWII was FDR’s last ditch attempt to cure the depression, which the fed had gotten us into, by doing almost exactly what is happening now, and what happened in 2000. The bust in the year 2000 is not over yet, believe me. This may not be a “dead cat bounce,” but it isn’t at all healthy. Check latest stock prices if you are an unbeliever. Getting back to World War II: All the movies seem to have the wicked Nazis or other scum cornering the innocents, and saying in a strong grizzled voice, “Your papers please.” It was the “papers” which identified the huddled, bewildered ones. “Papers” are the government’s way of identifying everyone. Papers or numbers tell the story. Everyone now has to get a Social Security number when they are born. If that isn’t the high road to a dictatorship, I don’t know one. It is “papers please,” or “Social Security number,” or drivers license number, or whatever, which makes us little peas in the gigantic pod of the welfare, all powerful, hideous, state.

Readers of Gold-Eagle, are the epitome of individualism. I usually state it as I see fit, with no holds barred. I am not one for charts, formations, and graphs, but we all realize that the state hates gold, and will do anything it can to hold its price down in whatever currency it may have at hand, regardless of the nation. All nations are printing bills and cutting trees as fast as they can, to prop up their fiefdoms. Will it all come crashing down at once? Will America survive with a $32 trillion debt, which is impossible to pay? Will America survive with dollar bills fluttering down on the world like confetti? Will dollars eventually be used as were the Reichsmarks in 1924, and that is for toilet paper, or starting fires on a cold winter morn? People are always hypothecating about, “if the dollar crashes,” and I point out that it already has crashed by 98%, so any further debasement is, as Sherlock Holmes said, “Elementary, my dear Watson.”

As a kid growing up in Washington DC. I used to go to the soap box derby races. It was fun. Asking if the dollar will crash, is like asking a soap box driver at the start line, if he will enter the race. Or perhaps asking an elevator mechanic if the car goes up as well as down. The phrase “your papers please,” might refer to identification, or even bundling up dollars for the scrap paper drive at some time in the future. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS RIDICULOUS, EXCEPT IT HAS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN HISTORY. At an auction recently, I bought a framed set of two Confederate bills, and for a lot more than their value of twenty-five cents, and twenty dollars. They have antique value now, 140 years later. Ten years after the War Between the States, believe me, they had no antique value, as they were used for insulating cabins in the mountains.

But the title of “papers please,” has more meaning to the holder of precious metals. Not as to confiscation, as I have covered that over and over again. Forget confiscation! No one knows who has the metals, and that’s the point of “papers please.” Ever try to open a bank account without the ’papers please’ being asked in the form of your Social Security number? Ever try buying a share of stock without the ’papers please’ being asked of you? Ever try to get a mortgage or other loan, without ’papers please?’ Ever obtain a credit card without the ’papers please’ being necessary? We are all subservient, and drones to almighty DC, and its corrupt politicos, who have destroyed our once fair land. Would America be teetering on actual financial collapse, if it weren’t for generations of politicians who have given to everyone, and printed without end? No, so it is natural for the bureaucrats to fudge on everything, blame everything on anyone but themselves, and attempt to further harass and throttle us.

All stock certificates, bank accounts, real estate, autos, futures accounts, credit cards, etc, have the ’papers please’ attached to them. The one thing that doesn’t have this, is buying physical things which require no registration. A new sofa for the home? A new lawn mower? A new set of duds? Perfume, garden plants, or a new roof? No ’papers please’ on them. Car repairs, home remodeling, trips within the USA? No ’papers please’ on them either. Virtually anything you can write a check for or pay cash for, has no ’papers please’ attached to them. So far, Uncle Sam does not check on our restaurant meals, fuel purchases, travel, or precious metals purchases. There are no “papers” attached to a new set of tires, a new computer, or Gold Eagles.

Silver and gold have no papers, serial numbers, or any such nonsense. Why should they? They are actual physical things, which can be handed down to heirs, stored anyplace, and are actual, tangible things. It seems to me that when something requires ’papers,’ that something is not a tangible thing. Think about it. A mortgage, share of stock, or credit card, has a potential of becoming worthless, overbought, oversold, defaulted, repossessed, or various calamitous things associated with pieces of paper with ink on them, which promise things, but are not tangible items. Dollar bills are promises of nothing more than more dollar bills, which is what their imprimatur says on them. Why should it require “papers” to open a bank account, buy a share of stock, or obtain a credit card? I don’t know, and this shouldn’t be necessary. I have been told that no law exists requiring ’papers please’ for the previous, but the dispensers require them, regardless of a lack of a law. So be it, and I can’t change that. I just like tangible things, be they original art, a home in which to live, and antiques of all sorts to restore or merely enjoy. I love to travel, eat in fine restaurants, stay in grand hotels, and attend film, plays, and concerts. These do not require ’papers’ to gain admission to, or I might cease doing such.

As long as cash and checking accounts exist, one can do a host of things without having to submit to, “papers please.” As the gigantic arastra of government continues to grind us into dust, it might be wise to deal in items which require no “papers please,” to purchase with our checks. Life is to be enjoyed, and it is surprising how much pleasure is obtained by having fistfulls of gold coins, or a plentiful supply of silver.

Millions of Americans have lost not only their jobs, but pensions which they had faithfully contributed to over the years. These pieces of paper with ink on them, which promised an easy retirement, have gone the way of a cloud on a sunny day. Jobs gone to China and India, because of fitful regulations, outrageous taxation, and regulations beyond recall, which have forced employers to move overseas in an attempt to survive. Remember these facts, when you blame the companies that moved overseas. They had to obey thousands of expensive regulations, pay half of your Social Security and all of the unemployment and workmen’s comp insurance. They had to pay you to get sick and take a vacation. The Chinese don’t get paid to get sick or take a vacation. The Chinese have no Social Security and other facets of FICA which amounts to almost 19% of your pay. The competition has been ruinous, and is leveling us down to their level. We’re not elevating ourselves, and our standard of living is descending to levels of over half century ago. You find that hard to believe? Think again. There were no credit cards then, no easy money, high percentage of value mortgages, and the money was backed by, and made of; silver and gold. If we returned to those days, we might be about in the same standard of living. “Papers please,” wasn’t necessary then, and no one had to give out with Social Security numbers to buy stock, or open a bank account.

The American dream has become a nightmare, only most do not realize how thin the ice has become. Protect yourself.
