Time Magazine reports that 63% of Americans ages 18 – 24 can’t find Iraq on a map, and 50% can’t locate New York State, however 46 million Americans voted on American Idol (whatever that is). It all boils down to a simple fact, and that is that ’public education’ is on a par with everything else which is deemed to be ’public.’ As I mentioned before, I am working on a sixth book, which will trace 98% of our ills directly to the D.C. Gang, and not just the current ones, but the members of the Gang throughout the last two hundred years.
Americans were far more literate before public schools were ever contemplated, and today, no one argues the point that home-schooled kids far outperform those who have matriculated through the public school farce. Public schools and so-called “free education,’ is not free at all, and is a classic example of a bad thing becoming so common that 99% of Americans shriek in horror at the thought of not having them. America is addicted to public education, even though most admit it is an utter failure. Free? Not hardly! Not only do the public schools and related bureaucracies both federal and state, decay your dollar, but your property taxes would be 75% less without the schools hoarding trillions of dollars. It became far worse when the D.C. Gang took a hand at ’education,’ and formed the ’Department of Education,’ which of course educates no one. The schools were far better before the D.C. gang got involved, and even better when they were a wholly LOCAL affair, leaving even the states out of it. In other words, when there were one room schoolhouses if the population dictated such. My best friend grew up in a one room school in Montana, and he says it was the best education ever. Actually, a one room schoolhouse is just about like home schooling, isn’t it?
Why were Americans far more literate and best educated before public schools? Because parents realized it was their responsibility, and they shouldered it. If they didn’t, they knew their kids would not be successful. Lessons learned over Mommy’s knee, seem to last longest. Parents teach their kids far more than half of what they will learn in life before they are subjected to the public school system. Speaking, bathroom habits, eating, table manners, exercise, and a whole host of everything learned before school, are probably more than 50% of what is learned in a lifetime. Why shouldn’t parents be responsible for the rest?
I was lucky to be an only child of caring parents, and had an additional advantage of being sent to a grand private school for six years. When I think of a school, even at my age, I think of Sidwell Friends, not the public schools I went to for the other six. Talk about getting rid of the public schools brands one as a radical nut case, even though it make the utmost sense. In the future I’ll take on other disasters which can be directly or indirectly traced to the D.C. Gang down though the ages.
Nice correction today. How low will it go? Who knows.
