Ever been in a greenhouse? It’s a most marvelous place to visit. It is warm, humid, contains lots of oxygen, and smells of plants lustily growing in the ideal conditions. Greenhouses then, are wonderful. Shouldn’t the gases in them be the same? Not according to the greenies and weepy, teeth gnashing environmentalists. You know them. They’re the ones who will find a spider in their home and gently take it outside so the poor little creature can live. I smash them. These children of nature insist that carbon dioxide is increasing so much, that we will all be dead soon, and we must throw away all old refrigerators, and ride bikes. Let’s examine the so called carbon dioxide threat. The atmosphere is largely made up of nitrogen, 78%, and oxygen 21%. In other words, oxygen and nitrogen make up 99% of our atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, is one tenth of one percent of our atmosphere. Plants take in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen, which is called photosynthesis. Humans and animals breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide, which is 8th grade science. So the more carbon dioxide there is, the healthier and more plentiful will plant life be, and provide more oxygen for us to breathe. If the earth gets a degree warmer, plants will grow even more, and create more oxygen.
The greenies insist that when we burn gas in our cars, we create more carbon dioxide, which absorbs more heat from the sun, and therefore warms the earth. They say we are pouring thousands of tons of carbon dioxide into the air daily, and we are all doomed. Carbon dioxide in the air, is measured in “pentagrams,” and one pentagram supposedly equals a billion metric tons. The carbon dioxide inserted into the atmosphere by human activity, is estimated to be 3 pentagrams, or an increase of four tenths of one percent of one tenth of one percent, (.0004%), or an amount so infinitesimal, as to be virtually un-measurable. The extreme greenies insist that carbon dioxide is a harmful chemical, which is absurd. It is not a noxious chemical, but one which all plant life depends on to live! The joy one feels in hiking through the woods, or entering a greenhouse cannot be denied, because it is things GROWING and giving off life giving OXYGEN for us to breathe.
I won’t go into the ozone depletion, which I consider either a fraud or totally exaggerated. The ozone hole and covering has been there for thousands of years; long before man ’discovered it’ and began to rant and rave about it. Worried about animals becoming extinct? Well, about 97% of animals which ever lived on earth are already extinct, so a few more won’t bother me. Hundreds of millions in developments and progress have been impeded by greenies hollering about an ugly fish or tiny mouse. Nuts to them. If you buy a piece of land, you’d better hope they don’t find a scarce bug on it, because your land will be frozen to protect it. If you find the bug, for god’s sake, stamp it out pronto! (This column will drive the liberals nuts, and I smile at the thought). Have a great weekend.
