Take These?

Ever watch the commercials for the prescription drugs on TV?  After telling everyone how wonderful they are and the models telling everyone how their hot flashes are a thing of the past, they lost 80 pounds, sleep well, have no more indigestion, can get it up regularly, see well, think well, or solved a whole host of problems, the tag line says that if you drink, smoke, take other drugs, or have a lot of other mentioned things going on, you may be subject to nausea, diarrhea, sleeplessness, nervous prostration, blindness, dizziness, breathlessness, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, incontinence, or maybe death, if you take these wonderful drugs…by prescription only of course.  Ask your doctor is the final tag.  The doctors have been given lots of free samples and other handouts by the detail men who sell these potions, so they always prescribe them. I’ll ask my doctor when hell freezes over.  America is drug crazy, and I don’t mean heroin.  I take vitamins, and a lot of them, but I haven’t had a pain killer, or even an aspirin for years. I wouldn’t take a prescription drug as advertised on the boob tube for anything.  I don’t watch the NBC, CBS, or ABC news, but I understand the average age of those who watch is 60, and those ads flow like water down a storm drain on those shows.  All the geezers can’t wait to “ask their doctor” I am sure, after seeing these rosy cheeked normal weight, full haired actors tout Merck’s latest compound, guaranteed to make you well, feel better, or act towards your spouse like you were 18 again.  The mattresses make you sleep like a baby, and the pills make everything OK again. You can play baseball, run miles and swim laps after you take the latest drug, by prescription only of course.  I have heard of kids visiting parents, looking in the medicine cabinet and seeing gobs of pills being taken by Mom, who feels poorly, and with a giant whisk, flushing them all down the toilet.  Mom seems to feel a lot better after they are gone, I have heard.  Modern medical science seems to be fixated on taking pills, and too little on nutrition, exercise, not smoking, and in my opinion taking lots of vitamins and minerals.  They must be good for you, or the DC Gang wouldn’t be constantly trying to convince you they are worthless and attempting to place them under their control.  We’ll have to go to Mexico eventually, just to get basic vitamins and minerals if they have their way, just like going to Mexico seems common for cancer and other treatments the DC Gang considers to be ineffective.  I’ve got news for you D.C.  It’s none of your business what we do or take, as long as no one else is harmed.
