Sometimes, when something bad comes along, but sounds wonderful, it becomes part of our lives. Such is the case with Medicare, Medicaid, welfare of all types, and especially public schools, which are advertised as being “free.” The word “Free” when connected with anything a government provides, is totally false. Government provided things, not only cost a lot of dollars, but invariably are totally inefficient, and destructive of a society. Welfare has destroyed our society by allowing the inept and lazy to procreate endlessly, and live without working. Their “public housing” has destroyed neighborhoods wherever they have been built. The so called “free” public schools are in fact extremely expensive, and as each year passes, as with all government ’programs,’ they decay from inefficiency to utter uselessness. In especially the large cities, the public schools have been little more than baby sitting services, which teach little and are rife with crime. One of the reasons that foreign engineers and techies are invading our lands is because they will work for less, but the main reason is than America, thanks to its public school system has so poorly educated its pupils that more often than not, the ’graduates’ are incapable of doing little more than drudge work. As a result of increasing anger over the failure of the public school system to educate, so called “charter” schools have sprung up by the thousands, home schooling is increasing by leaps and bounds, and parochial and other private schools are doing quite well.
The fact of the matter is that a bit over 125 years ago, there were no public schools, and it was the parent’s job to see to it that their offspring were educated. Americans were so much better educated then, that comparisons are absurd if they are being made in an attempt to boost either the efficiency or cost of public schooling. The average child, before public schools, was several times better educated, then they are now. One room schools were wonderful, and I know of at least three who were educated in them, and they cannot express their love of them enough. Public anything is usually a disaster, and public schools, which everyone thinks are so indispensable and free, are exactly the opposite. They are a classic case of a thing gone wrong, which should have never been initiated in the first place, but which the participants are so used to, that eliminating them is heresy.
