I have no idea of how many historic buildings have been demolished because they couldn’t be adapted to wheelchairs. Do you have any idea of how much it has cost taxpayers to buy “kneeling busses,” so that wheel chaired people can access them? Now it is going to be a re-design of the fiat dollars so blind people can know what they are? I am so damned sick of having to pay through the nose to accommodate those who are lame, blind, or in some other way disabled. Before the ADA, they stayed home. They were cared for by their families or churches. I have the greatest of sympathy for a crippled, or blind person, but don’t foist off hundreds of billions of dollars in expense for those of us who can see and walk. In a building I used to own, the beautiful office which had been occupied for many years by an insurance company, became useless. They had grown so much that they need a larger space, and had to move. The building was built in 1902, and the office was on the second floor. An elevator would have cost $35,000, and there was no place to put it. It could no longer be used as an office, so at great expense, I had to turn it into an apartment which rented for half the previous amount as an office. The insurance company had never had a customer who couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs, but the ADA said that no office could be anywhere that a wheelchair couldn’t access. Literally, thousands of wheelchair accessible busses, trains and trolley cars have had to be built at a cost of literally hundreds of billions of dollars, just so wheelchair bound people could access them. Who pays? You and I. Just as an example, go to any city with rapid transit, and look at the cars which have special doors and ramps for wheelchairs, and see if you have ever seen anyone use them. Probably not.
It would be just as cheap, and even cheaper, for wheel chair bound and blind people to have a limo pick hem up and take them where they want to go, without making building owners, architects, transit operators, and business people spend billions to obey the stupid law which requires everyone to cater to, and provide for a teensy percentage of the population, which should simply stay home or let their families or churches provide services for them. Or do you like the special toilets in all rest rooms that aren’t in your home? Know how much they have cost stores and offices? Braille everywhere? Stay home or let your families help you, and save the taxpayers hundreds of billions. All prices, no matter which ones, would be lower if it weren’t for the ADA and forced accommodating for the blind and lame. Am I heartless? Absolutely not! Just logical. Get rid of the D.C. Gang, which is slowly killing us all.
