You know, the “gross domestic product.” That’s the figure that seems ever so rosy. That’s the statistic which is supposed to show how wonderful the economy is, and this is the figure which seems to constantly go up, and which makes the professional economists predict such a glorious future. The GDP is what tells us how much money has been spent. So, if ever more money is being spent, isn’t that good? If prices are going up, thanks to inflation, (printing money), and you have to spend more at the grocery store, gas station, hardware store or shoe store, wouldn’t that make the GDP go up also? Yup. Actually, the more dollars that are printed, which makes prices go up, which is inflation, (check the dictionary under inflation to prove I am right), that increases the GDP. The two figures work against each other, but of course both figures are fictions released by the D.C. Gang, to make everything seem just fine.
Then consider the people who spend the money. When government size increases, thanks to say the (un) Patriot Act, these employees of the fed spend their salaries, don’t they? When they spend their salaries, this then increases the GDP. 90% of government spending is increasing the GDP by increasing salaries, number of employees, and employment created by government spending. No question about it, government spending increases the GDP. Government size is at all time highs. There are far more government employees now than at any time in our history. They are paid in tax payer dollars, which increases the GDP.
Government employment at any level, is not productive employment. At the airport, the pilots, stews, and ground crews are producing transportation. The goons who make grandma take off her shoes and rummage through your baggage, are creating nothing, and getting in everyone’s way, and angering people. Farmers who grow or raise food, are productive occupations. Government bureaucrats who pester the farmers, control their actions and in general harass them are not productive, but nuisances. Doctors and surgeons who provide health care, are a productive element in our society, but the regulators, medicare, medicaid, and other government harassers and regulators are merely getting in the way, and being paid tax dollars to destroy the profession. Does anyone really believe we are better off now health care wise, than we were before government got into health care? Not by the skin of your chinney chin chin. Before government intrusion, the “nursing home” was an unknown occupation, and people were allowed to die in peace rather than prolonging lives which should have been ended in a normal fashion, just as one simple example out of a thousand. Ask any doctor. In other words, while we have had a $5 trillion trade deficit over the last 30 years, which is another way of saying that productive jobs are now gone overseas, they have been replaced by bureaucrats, fake statistics, and regulations, none of which are productive.
The best way to say it is that while the GDP is up, we are bankrupt, the dollar is fading like the sunset, and our living standards are about where they were 45 years ago, and going further back all the time. I wonder when we will arrive at kerosene lamps, outhouses, and horse and buggy transport? I know, I am a gross exaggerator. Tell me, if I am, how to stop government growth and dollar decay? If that can be done, we will stop going backwards. Now, various governments around the world are building under-ground enclaves so that if we are attacked, they will be safe. Who care if they are safe? We’d all be better off if they were blown off the fasce of the earth and the citizens survived. Who needs them?
