Cuba

Cuba used to be the playground of America.  During the ’Big Band Era’ there were lots of songs about a ’Weekend in Cuba’, I remember words to a lot of them.  It was a fun place to go in winter.  Lots of Cuban Rum, Cuban cigars, and a merry time.   A quick flight of about a half hour from Miami, and you were there!  Lots of great food, reasonable prices, and a joyous place to vacation in winter.

No more.  It’s a crime to go to Cuba.  You could get arrested!  Communist Russia?  OK.  Communist China?  OK, but not communist Cuba.  The D.C. Gang seems to think that if they cut Cuba off from dollars and Americans, they will hurt Castro and show him up good.  All they’re doing is helping Castro!  If Americas were free to travel to Cuba, the inflow of dollars would make his commie government look pretty sick indeed.

Cubans would love to welcome American tourists!  Just think!  You could see thousands of 50’s American cars.  I am not taking the side of Castro.  Just pointing out how foolish D.C. is.  Americans flooding into Cuba and spending dollars, would brighten up the place, make it prosperous again, and make Castro look ridiculous.  He’s no saint.  Anyone who owned property in Cuba, who was not Cuban, instantly didn’t own it any more when he took over. He nationalized American factories and property, and Americans got no compensation.  Not a nice thing to do.  Typical of a communist.  What better way to make a commie like Castro look foolish, than to allow Americans to go there and spend their money?  I’ve never smoked a Cuban cigar, (I don’t smoke, but a cigar a year isn’t too bad), but I’d love to try one.

As a sort of warning to those of you who are seriously thinking about leaving the USA for a Central American nation as a safe haven, be careful.  They aren’t safe. In Costa Rica, taking foreign owned property could happen any day now, I hear.  The same is possible in many other places down there, and I wouldn’t invest a dime in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, or Nicaragua.  Those governments think nothing about taking anything they want from non-residents, and have done it over and over again.

I can see getting fed up with America and the Gang, but where else is there to go which is as safe as here?  A client went to Argentina several times, learned Spanish, bought a truck down there and had a plan on buying a large farm, and maybe eventually moving there.  After four trips he gave it up, and even lost his truck.  They can’t be trusted.  Other harrowing experiences I have heard by those just visiting there.  A fellow in my Kiwanis Club used to go to Mexico in his motor home every year to fish and relax.  On his way back, on a rather lonely road, a band of armed Mexicans blocked the road, cleaned out his motor home, took everything he had and left him.  He’ll never go there again.  Not me.  I know the language, customs, shopping, money, and everything else here.  Times may be bad and going to get worse even, but they will in other places too.  Stay here and send Ron Paul a hundred bucks.  I just sent him another hundred.

Meanwhile, the fed keeps pumping money into the economy, thereby taxing everyone equally by making prices go up and dollars go down in value.  They’re between a rock and a hard place.  If they lower the interest rate more, it will be more difficult to sell the debt.  If they don’t, the economy may collapse anyway due to the housing glut and foreclosures.  Either way, it looks bad for the economy, and great for precious metals.  Why did the metals go down and seem to stay down?  Most believe that it is because the market has been flooded with sellers who had to sell to cover their shorts or margin calls.  They had to trade in real wealth to stay afloat in their paper deals.  Bargainsville for us, and how sad for them.  As I finish this Friday morning, the stock market looks like it will respond handily to the Plunge Protection Team (PPT) and it’s manipulations.  Gold and silver being manipulated?  Maybe to a degree with the COMEX refusing to enforce its own rules, but that is NOTHING like the stock market manipulations by our own government!  Should the stock market go up with millions of foreclosures and financial chaos all around the world?  Not by the skin of your chinny chin chin!  The manipulation of the stock market emits directly from the United States Government.  How long can manipulations of any kind last?  As far as tangibles are concerned, not forever, because a tangible is something requiring capital, labor, machinery and energy to produce, and whereas a piece of paper, or billions of them, can be produced as long as there are trees and gullible sheeple who will fall for the hocus-pocus fed to them by stock brokers and their own government.  Have a great Labor Day Weekend, closed on Monday of course, and by all means protect yourself!
