Sheriff Joe

The pride of Maricopa County Arizona (Phoenix area), is Sheriff Joe Arpiao.  He continuously gets re-elected by about 85% of the votes, and Maricopa County loves Sheriff Joe.  Why?  Because he treats criminals like they should be treated.  Never have I agreed more with a public official, than I do with Sheriff Joe.  Weepy, liberal humanitarians hate him, and they’re the 15% who vote against him.  Public defenders, who undoubtedly are the least talented of all lawyers, dislike him as well.  Why do we need public defenders anyway?  The Constitution says nothing about it other than those charged should be given ’counsel’ as the Sixth Amendment says.  Does that mean a lawyer on the public payroll?  Doesn’t say so, and there were lawyers back then, just as there are now.

Sheriff Joe makes his charges live in tents and wear pink outfits.  No coffee, air conditioning,  commercial TV, drugs, or cigarettes.  I understand that he makes them watch Newt Gingrich video tapes on their screens.  Sheriff Joe has old fashioned chain gangs, so the field workers can’t escape.  He even has his females on chain gangs when they go outside of the prison camp.  Sheriff Joe’s latest work program forces those convicted of drunk driving, to hand dig the graves of those who died in drunk driving caused accidents. Who can fault him?  Not me!

Suppose all Sheriffs required their jail keeps to do the same?  What many  don’t realize, is that the Sheriff is in charge of all county law enforcement, and this includes the jails, state patrol, and city cops, as well as his own department.  Any  sheriff could do the same…if he wanted to. Ask them, “Why not?” Criminals are deathly afraid of ending up in the custody of Sheriff Joe.  All criminals should be afraid of ending up in the custody of a  sheriff.  Unfortunately, most sheriffs don’t copy Sheriff Joe.

I wish to thank all of you nice people who have sent me Christmas cards.  I haven’t sent a Christmas card in decades, as I have respect for the weary postman, but I thank you all, and wish everyone the merriest of Christmases.  Was Jesus born on Christmas?  No, and Christmas is derived from the pagan holiday Saturnalia, but I love it anyway.  The music and decorations truly warm the heart and thrill the eyes and ears.  Just be glad he was born!
