MYOB

I have used that expression a thousand times while raising my kids, and have used it in columns also.  You know what it means.  It means, “Mind Your Own Business,” and never has that been a greater national mistake than what is going on now.  Eisenhower said that he hoped that American troops would never get bogged down in the mid-east.  Well, we’re there, and are as bogged down as could any nation.  Talk about a huge blunder.

Looks like Iraq is falling apart again, in spite of five years of death and destruction.  Now you Republicans who support this abominable war, stop and think.  I know that’s a big thing, since you’re all so straight supporters of the ’party line,’ but just stop and THINK.  Iraq was ruled by a dictator.  An absolute tyrant.  He undoubtedly caused the deaths of thousands.  He ruled with an iron hand, and was a supreme egotist, his picture was plastered everywhere, and he lived in several huge palaces.  But he made it work, no one was out of a job, the lights went on, water flowed from the spigots, and the oil wells were producing.  Iraq, when it was formed after WW I was an impossible situation anyway, and should have been three separate and distinct nations, but Saddam made it work.  Now, we and others have killed hundreds of thousands, and Iraq has been almost totally destroyed. O’Bama is right.  Before we got there, there was no Al Qaeda, if there is such a thing anyway.  We’ve made everyone on all sides hate us, and it is costing an official $12 billion a month, but counting on future costs, many say the war, if it were stopped now, would cost well over two trillion dollars.  As if that weren’t bad enough, we’ve polluted the place with radio activity thanks to our use of depleted uranium ammo.

In Afghanistan, the Russians gave up and left.  We decided that we’d straighten it all out, and used the inside job 9/11 as an excuse.  There was no excuse for Iraq.  The Taliban ruled in Afghanistan, and all was peaceful and harsh.  No opium was produced, no radio, no TV, and women were regarded as a sometime convenience, but not much else.  Harsh by anyone’s standards, and certainly by ours.  We were going to show them how a nation should be run, and concocted to get other nations in on the game with NATO.  The result?  Other nations are quietly bowing out, and it seems to be a lost cause.  It is costing hundreds of billions of dollars to not mind our own business, plus more of the world’s hatred.  See, you McCain supporters, Muslim nations deeply resent our invading their lands.  Sure, they’re backward, mean, and think that they’ll gain paradise if they kill one of us, but so what?  That’s their thing, so it’s none of our business.  They get outraged at a cartoon which seems to make fun of their prophet, and maybe they should, because they hold him in high esteem.  They have not a bit of sense of humor, that’s for sure, but it’s none of our business.  Why should we be the policemen of the world?  Especially when the world doesn’t want us to be, and would much rather wallow in their own system of government, beliefs, and practices.  We think they’re crazy not to want to be like us, but they look upon us as an enemy, not an idol to which they want to emulate.

Now we’re in Pakistan, messing around again, after supporting the wrong guy for years.  On and on it goes, and there goes the dollar, cascading down the drain, thanks to endless spending and warfare, all of which is pointless.  Remember the Brown vs. Board decision?  Oh, we’ll fix the integration problem.  We’ll buy a million school busses and force whites to go to black schools, and that will fix everything.  Integration will be solved.  Oh sure.  Have Italians moved out of ’little Italys?’  Have Chinese moved out of ’Chinatowns?’  Have black neighborhoods become white?  Or have formerly white neighborhoods in hundreds of cities become ruined when whites moved out?  Currently, in the Harlem section of Manhattan, whites have discovered the formerly wonderful homes, which had been trashed.  They bought, restored, and Harlem is becoming the place to live, and the blacks hate it.  Have Germans moved out of Germantowns?’  Do the rich move into poor neighborhoods?  Do smart kids get sent to dumb schools, or do their parents home-school or send them to private schools?

The racial situation would have gradually solved itself here, as more and more blacks got on their feet, realized how important education is, and self pulled themselves up.  The War Between the States, started by the Republican idol, dishonest Abe Lincoln, was absurd.  By the time Abe had his way, slaves were costing $1500 in gold, the South could no longer afford them, and they were leaving by the hundreds every month.  The North, which was the first slave holder, had long ago gotten rid of theirs, and the South was in the process.  The age of farm machinery was just around the corner (industrial revolution), and that would have helped it along nicely.  Oh no, we’ve got to show those southerners a thing or two.  The day Lincoln was elected, the South knew what he was up to, and several decided to secede right then and there.  No one could MYOB.

Just think of the wealth and prosperity we would have if we had never gone to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.  Imagine our united nation if D.C. hadn’t decided to “fix the South,” and “fix the integration issue,” rather than letting independent people make up their own minds about who they wanted to associate with, live with, and help.  “Help?”  Oh, that’s another MYOB situation.  If we had just not given a dime’s worth of welfare to anyone at any time, and let the chips fall where they may, the cities would still be whole, blacks would have pulled themselves up, and they wouldn’t now be an under-class. I hate that name black, because they aren’t ’black,’ and they certainly aren’t ’African-Americans.’  They’re Americans.  When I was young, they were called ’colored,’ and it did no disrespect to them.  To me, ’black’ is an insult, but that’s the way it is. It never hurts to mind one’s own business.  It never hurts to give advice if it is requested.  It never hurts to publicize one’s opinions in the hope of changing minds.  It never hurts to have an opinion.  We’re all of different opinions, regardless of religion, race, age, experience, wealth, up-bringing, heredity, genes, and a host of differences.

What right does our government have to invade another nation without a Constitutional Congressional vote?  What right did it give dishonest Abe to re-supply Charleston Harbor, when he had been warned against such an action?  What right did Abe have to start a war which killed 620,000 Americans?  Where in our beloved and ignored Constitution, does it give government permission to do most of what it now does with impunity?  I must admit, I do not know.  Protect yourself, because no one else will.  They’re too busy handing out your dollars to those who should perish, and fighting endless wars overseas.
