Drugs

I think there will be a lot of outrages and disagreements with this one, but I say it like I think it is, and that’s that.

The war on drugs is an utter failure, first of all, just like wars on prostitution and gambling.  When the governments decided that they couldn’t stop gambling, they simply joined in and established lottery systems in most, if not all states.  (If a government does it, it’s not immoral?).  Then there is the Power Ball lottery, which makes a huge amount of money for its promoters.  Drugs are something I never tried, and never will.  I believe they change the mind permanently, and I want mine to be whole.  The druggies all act ’different,’ and dress and think ’different,’ even after they cease taking them.  I think that drugs have altered their minds.  Not for me!  But think of all the undeserved riches made by squalor who sell drugs to those who want them.  Think of all the people in jails for just using drugs.  It is said that if the druggies were released, a third of jail cells would be empty, and awaiting real criminals.

Prohibition was a failure.  Prohibition got the Mafia and FBI started here, and the streets were filled with violence and speakeasies.  Alcohol consumption actually increased during prohibition.  Prohibition was, like the drug war; an effort to legislate morality.  Certain people’s version of morality anyway.  Such efforts always fail and are costly and violence filled.  If drugs were taxed and made legal, would their consumption decrease, because the thrill of doing something illegal was gone?  Doing illegal things is always a kick for some.  Prohibition fostered violence and thrills from doing something illegal.  I’ve often thought of doing a restaurant decorated like the twenties, having customers knock to enter, and calling it “The Speakeasy.”  I think it would turn into a profitable chain.  Anyone want to join me in it?  (If someone else does it, it was my idea first, and you owe me a royalty!).

Coca-Cola (Coke), used to have a bit of cocaine in it, and “Drug Stores” got their names because they legally sold drugs.  Drugs that are verbotten today and punishable.  It is said that the Brits got the Chinks hooked on opium, which is possible. Let’s stop the silly drug war, make them legal, and tax the hell out of them.  Stop trying to legislate morality, or some peoples’ version of morality anyway.  I think is is poisonous to drink diet soda, smoke cigarettes, and have fluoride in drinking water, but others heartily disagree.  Cigarettes kill millions each year around the world, but are totally legal, and most cities and towns inject poisonous fluoride into their tap water.

If drugs were made legal and taxed like cigarettes and alcohol, a lot of people would probably kill themselves with overdoses, just like millions are killing themselves with alcohol and tobacco.  So what?  Get rid of the losers and weaklings, and we’ll all be better off.  Just imagine the tax revenues and savings in law enforcement which could be achieved if the war on drugs was halted.  The latest, most debilitating drug can be made from stuff purchased at a grocery store, they say.  People are ingenious, aren’t they?  Those who want drugs, will always get them illegally and pay a lot for them, while at the same time enriching those who shouldn’t be enriched.  People should get wealthy by brains, education, and study, not by being an illegal seller of what people want and are willing to pay for, regardless of the consequences.  The CIA, I am certain, has been in the drug business for many years, and the payoffs and corruption caused by illegal drugs is monumental.

Smokers are quitting because they realize how bad it is for them, and the cigarette makers are making their profits from overseas purchases, with not much volume here any more.  If drugs were available in drug stores, as they used to be, some would self destruct, just like alcoholics and smokers currently do, but they are self destructing right now anyway, only paying a lot more for it than they should, and making trash people rich.  Come on America, stop the silly drug war.  It isn’t winnable, and is very costly in money and lives.
