Terrorism

We’re fighting terrorism, afraid of terrorism, and being protected from terrorism.  Isn’t it grand?  The good old government, in all its powers, bureaucracies, and employees, is protecting us from terrorism and those nasty creeps who would blow us to bits, because they’re jealous of our prosperity and happiness.  How wonderful!  Except we’re not prosperous, and less than 20% of us are happy with what’s going on.

Why would a terrorist want to harm us?  Is it possibly because they resent us trying to be the world’s policeman?  Is it because they’re sick and tired of American troops in their Muslim lands?  Is it because they want us to mind our own business, leave them alone, and not try to convert them to democracy, Christianity, and all that goes with it?  Is it because they have a totally different outlook on life, which we don’t appreciate, and trying to convince them that they’re wrong, offends them, and they’re going to try to stop it and maybe even get even?

I do think so.  I do honestly believe that if we brought all the troops home immediately, from every single base in Europe, Japan, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, and wherever there is a US military base, and then resign from the United Nations and throw it off our shores, we would be in fine shape.  Not a gradual withdrawal either.  Just get the hell out, leave everyone alone, stop meddling, protecting, and offending, and everyone come home.  As a last tour of duty, guard the Mexican border.  Having just returned from Mexico on a cruise, where we went to three Mexican cities, I can understand why they want to come here, but also why we don’t want them.

Just imagine how little the military would cost, if all the troops were on  our shores.  Just imagine how little they’d have to do.  Just protect us on our own shores!  Would anyone want to invade us if we stayed at home and minded our own business?  Would terrorists want to blow us up if we weren’t in their lands?  A career in the military is very expensive for the taxpayer, and involves learning how to kill “the enemy.”  Would there be an enemy to kill if we never left home?  Do you realize how America is hated because of our meddling and intrusions into other nations’ lands, business, and education?  How would you like it if some nation invaded us, blew up the White House, and sacked the Capitol, like the Brits did in 1812?  Might make us hate them, mightn’t it?

If you were an Iraqi, and America invaded and blasted everything in sight, scared the bejesus out of you, drove you from your home, made you poor and hungry, and wrecked everything in sight, would you perhaps want to destroy the invaders?  If you were an Afghan, and the same thing happened, might you want to get even?  Maybe they liked the Taliban, I don’t know, and don’t even care.  It’s their business, and if they don’t like their rulers, its up to them to get rid of them, not us.

If it’s so wonderful to invade and convert to our way, why not invade Cuba?  Zimbabwe?  Gee, they don’t have any oil do they?  Stop and think about who is in office now.  Both President and Vice President, are ’oil men.’  (One of them is a dumb oil man).  Is there any question but that we went to Iraq other than for oil?  Oil which we haven’t gotten, incidentally.  If a nation has a resource, they obviously want to sell it to someone.  If a nation has a lot of oil, they couldn’t use it tall themselves, even if they gave it away free to their citizens.  They want to sell it, and selling one’s resources is as natural as night and day.  We didn’t need to invade Iraq to get the oil.  All we needed to do was to ask Saddam to sell us oil, and he would have been delighted to do so.  I guess that was too simple.

What are hundreds of thousands of troops overseas doing for our economy and reputation?  Ruining both…is the answer.
