Amongst the dry rustle of dead illusions, fantasies, and outright lies, emanating from the D.C. Gang and its adherents, is the myth that fighting in Afghanistan, Iraq, Korea, or Vietnam, is ’fighting for your country.’ I am certain that the Soviets publicized a similar falsehood when they attempted to conquer Afghanistan with the insertion of 100,000 troops, and hundreds of millions of 1970’s dollars worth of tanks, guns, canons, aircraft, and various, other military paraphernalia. Nine years later, 17,000 troops dead, tens of thousands injured, and tens of thousands of Afghan civilians dead; the Soviets retreated with their tails between their legs, leaving a million tons of worthless equipment behind them. Afghanistan was partly responsible for the decline and failure of the Soviet Union and its communist party. The Ruskies have told us that a war in Afghanistan is unwinnable, and I am certain they are correct. Guess who was supporting the Afghans against the commies? Yup, it was good old Uncle Sam.
This might be the shortest column I have ever written, but I must ask the question, since there is a distinct possibility of America sending an additional 30,000 troops over to that God forsaken land… WHY? Is it to stop the heroin production? There was no heroin production till we and NATO went in there, as the Talaban had eradicated it. Then, WHY ARE WE THERE? Did Afghanistan attack us? No. Did Afghanistan attack anyone? No. Does Afghanistan have oil? No. Does Afghanistan have any other minerals or stuff needed by the outside world? No. Did Afghanistan do in the World Trade Centers? No. Does Afghanistan have any important trade routes, air space, or anything of possible use to anyone at any time or any place, to make it worth billions of dollars? No. Is Osama bin Laden there? Who knows or cares?
WHY ARE WE THERE?
Look people, the above is a simple, four word question. Why are we there? Please ask your Congressman or Senator, and try to get an answer, will you? We and NATO, are currently losing the pointless war, and in another five years or so, we still will probably be losing it. Afghanistan is a terribly unfriendly, dry, place, with lots of high mountains, caves, and places to hide. The Afghans, for some reason, do not like to be invaded, which is a pretty universal attitude, come to think of it.
Tens of thousands read my screed and forward it to lots of other web sites, who copy it and publish it. Mostly, the columns I write are about economics, but aren’t we broke enough already in Iraq, without further decimating the failing buck? Isn’t it time to ask the simple four word question to Obama, and his lefties? Is it possible that if millions asked that four word question to the D.C. Gang, that it might work? Isn’t it time to stop and think for a change, and if the answer to that four word question is unknown, what should we do? Get the hell out, bring the troops home, and tell NATO, ’sorry, we can’t afford this, our public is outraged, and you have to go it alone,’ would be my closing statement.
Now, as far as metals are concerned, will the current run-up continue without a correction? I think that at some time, that may happen, or corrections will be briefer shallower. Why? Because everything economic in the world is extremely bad. Japan is on the skids, as are the Brits, Germans, Ruskies, Frogs, and even the Chinks have thousands of closed factories, as do we. Will Obama and the Democrats, plus Maine’s two Senators and that Abomination from Philadelphia’s voting for more paper dollar ’stimulus,’ work? Never. Will we get into more inflation, more foreclosures, more job losses, and of course more after the market closes Friday, announcements of bank failures? Naturally. If everything is so great, why do they wait till Friday, after the market closes, to make the announcement of the bank failures? Will there be a correction? If so, how low will metals correct? I have no idea! This may be the time when so many newbies are getting in, everywhere, because of the realization that gold and silver are real, honest hedges, that prices will keep on going. My crystal ball broke years ago, so I don’t know, but I do know this: If there is a correction, it will be no where near the record correction we had last summer, and it won’t last long. Be not afraid, you’ll be fine, no matter whether there is one or not. The most severe correction in history, took place a few months ago, and it is already about wiped out. Some wags say there won’t be one till prices reach their prior peaks. I have no idea. I just keep buying.
