This, to me, has NOTHING to do with reducing oil consumption. It has simply, to do with getting big brother even further into our businesses and lives with a seemingly attractive inducement. Government should have nothing to do with subsidizing or aiding business other than getting the hell out of the way.
Various conservative radio hosts and writers, insist that ’cash for clunkers’ is bad because it destroys perfectly good cars, or that good cars should be given to poor people, or the like, but the main point of this has been avoided or overlooked.
Look at various other government ’programs,’ such as Social Security, Medicare, and handouts and subsidies of all sorts, which have inculcated themselves into our lives since the days of FDR. They cost a bundle of money and decay the dollar. They insert government into our lives and destroy our abilities to care for ourselves., and most important, ONCE STARTED, NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW HOW TO OPERATE WITHOUT THEM. Will auto dealers depend on ’cash for clunkers’ from now on? Ford is lyrical about it, and saw its sales jump like on a springboard. Now, will the Senate pass an additional $2 billion for the ’cash for clunkers’ absurdity? The House has already passed it.
Or is this a way to help ’Government Motors’ (GM) sell cars for the government which owns most of it? Will ’cash for clunkers’ get thousands of people into huge debts for their new cars, and may eventually have to let them be foreclosed upon, like the houses they mistakenly bought? Will auto dealers and manufacturers from now on, be unable to sell cars without many ’cash for clunkers’ programs and variations in the years to come? Isn’t this a way to get government to further govern your life and life style, under a seemingly wonderful program, which seems to ’help everyone?’ Isn’t this a way to further weaken the populace? To increase the deficit and further destroy the currency? Maybe the next ’cash for clunkers’ program will allow cars back to the 1970’s to be turned in for cash on a new car? Or cars which get 20 miles per gallon rather than 18? The possible variations on this are endless as a way to get government’s tentacles into our arteries and veins to tighten the stranglehold. Why haven’t conservatives realized that this is a gimmick to further government power, which initially seems so wonderful, but whose implications in future years are hideous.
Medicare and Social Security, like nationalized health care which is coming unless we can stop it, all seemed so innocuous at first. All they do and have done, is weaken the populace and allow them to forget how to save, plan, and care for themselves. Get wise America!
Unless I am wrong, I think the attitude increasingly prevailing in America, is that more and more citizens are sick of Obama’s and Democrats’ communistic, socialistic plans for us, and when the 535 arrive home for their vacation, they will be overwhelmed with outraged citizens who want them to retrieve America as we want it, not as they want it. I think the Blue Dogs will be ever so much more popular, and that more Democrats might become ’Blue Dogs.” How far Obama’s discovered African birth certificate will go, we’ll see. And hope too!
