No, it isn’t the Bible or Atlas Shrugged, although both should be read. This book is old, and large, with 2831 pages. Published in 1919 by Bobbs-Merrill Co. and I don’t even know if they’re still in existence. I bought it for $6.50 at an antique store in Phoenix, years ago. It’s title?
“BARNES FEDERAL CODE 1919”
That’s exactly what it is. As the front page describes its contents, “Contains All Federal Statutes of General And Public Nature Now In Force.” The first 33 pages contain such things as the Constitution, table of contents, and other items which were not laws or statutes in 1919. What federal laws bound up the populace in 1919? Not many! The extant federal statutes in 1919, and which are included in the remaining 2700 plus pages, includes just about everything, such as The Departments of the Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, State and Labor, which were the only ’Cabinet’ posts in existence in 1919, and of course had very few employees.
In addition, there were a few statutes concerning the Army, Navy, Postal Service, Indian Affairs, Internal Revenue, Duties, Weights and Measures, and a few others. “Civil Rights,” took from pages 760 to 764, “The Census,” took pages 858 to 869, “The Panama Canal,” pages 2298 to 2307, and so on. Everything in 1919, was covered of a federal nature, in under 2800 pages. Today, it would probably take several warehouses full of tens of thousands of bills with myriad words, and which were never even read by those who voted for them. We have been betrayed.
Do you begin to see what has happened to America in 90 years? On page 1407, statute 5737, titled “Silver coins and their weight,” the weight and denomination of the silver coins is given. Page 1408 under statute 5742 it says the “One cent piece shall be ninety five per centum of copper and five per centum of tin and zinc, in such proportions as shall be determined by the Director of the Mint.” Have these statutes ever been abolished?
Title XXXIX, beginning on page 1425 tells us all about the currency and how it is to be backed by silver and gold, plus redeemable in such if desired. That part takes only two pages. Title XL says that all coins and currencies of the US Government shall be “legal tender,” but since they were all sound money, that posed no problems, and that took but one part of one page. Today of course, dollars are backed by thin air, and coinage is of inferior and cheap metals.
Page 42 says that the Speaker of the House shall receive a salary of $8,000, and on page 67, the President is to receive $50,000 a year, paid monthly. On page 77, the Secretary of State is to receive a salary of $8,000. He wasn’t traveling around the world, giving unwanted advice, and messing around in other’s business then, I suppose.
The book is a classic example of how far wrong the D.C. Gang has taken this once, wonderful, Republic. Please go to “usdebtclock.org” and see just how far down we have gone. A $199,000 debt for each of us? Trillions of dollars in debts which can never be paid? 49 or 43 or however many “czars” and their staff and expenses which are not authorized by Congress and who answer to Obama alone? Is the term ’Czar” in our Constitution? Who ordered these? How much do they cost? Why hasn’t the Congress said a big ’NO’ to all of the czar nonsense? Is it ’nonsense,’ or a plan to destroy America by Obama and his commie czars and advisors? Why doesn’t anyone read thousand page bills before they vote on them?
People, we are being sold down the river by 434 Representatives, and a hundred Senators plus all the czars, and millions of bureaucrats at all levels. We are sliding down the hills ever faster, unless something is done to stop this mad rush to hell with inane Congressional votes and bills. Please Google “blue dog democrats,” and write, e-mail, or call and have them know that if they vote for this takeover, we’ll see to it that they will not stay in office. I’ve done it.
Please watch Glenn Beck every day this week. Yesterday’s show was unbelievable, and I wish I had taped it. If you think that prices will not escalate into hyper-inflation after you open ’usdebtclock.org’ and gaze at those figures, you are sadly mistaken! Everything will go up to the stratosphere, including gold and silver.
The D.C. guys recently told 1200 vets that they had Lou Gehrig’s Disease, just as a typical example of the myriad screw ups in D.C., and they are qualified to further destroy the world’s best medical care? Ask any auto dealer about how wonderfully prompt and free of glitches the ’cash for clunkers’ thing is. Yesterday, on Glenn Beck, he pointed out that the ’cash for clunkers’ thing was proposed by an ex-convict, avowed communist, co-founder of the Weather Underground, named Van Jones, word for word, in his book. He also happens to be an Obama ’czar.’
From under 2800 pages in 1919, to warehouses full of endless bills with thousands of pages each in many cases, and which are rarely read by those who vote for them, see how we have degenerated? Republicans and Democrats have all fallen for the Constitutionally forbidden fruit of welfare and handouts, just to stay in office. For goodness sake, protect yourself and try to escape the big cities!
