My goodness, Coca Cola is more likely to pay its debts than the United States Government? We’re going to lose our fake ’triple A’ rating? We’re broke and getting broker? Please then, let me ask you, why store your assets in fading dollars? Since the Demos have greatly enlarged the deficit, which was started by FDR, it appears as if the printing press dollars may not work too much longer? Actually, they may, because Japan, Greece, Spain, Portugal, and even the UK have problems just like ours, and in some cases, they may be worse off than America. Regardless, we’re broke, and getting broker. If the suggestions below were carried out, we could once again be on top of the world, have sound dollars, and still have Social Security and Medicaid for those already in it. Naturally, none of my proposals will happen, but just maybe, if the Tea Party people can turn the Republican minds around, it could happen. Here’s what I would do:
Eliminate all foreign aid, fire all czars and their staffs. Maybe Mrs. Obama could survive without 125 assistants? Eliminate the Dept. of Energy, which produces no energy, but stands in the way of those can. Get rid of the Dept. of Education, which educates no one, and stands in the way of those who can. Get rid of the Dept. of Commerce, which sells nothing, but interferes with those who do. Get rid of the Dept. of Agriculture, which grows nothing, but irritates and interferes with those who do, and subsidizes and upsets market pricing. Get rid of the Dept. of Labor, which does no labor, but destroys the free labor market, and interferes with productive labor for profit. Get rid of many other entrenched bureaucracies. (this is a column, not a book!) The savings would be a trillion a year or so, just in government savings, and would free up a trillion in the private sector for not having to deal with the bureaucratic weasels. How to do it? Freeze all hiring, regulation writing, enforcement procedures, and pay raises. The bureaucracies would self-eliminate themselves pretty quickly.
Raise the amount recipients pay into Medicare by ten percent, and raise it in the future, according to the true inflation rate. It’s far too late to get rid of it, but no new entries into the work force should be allowed to participate or pay into it. All new entries into the work force should not be allowed into the Social Security system either. Both would be gone in sixty years. The Prescription payment thing should be wiped off the books immediately, before it gets a firmer hold. No, I don’t miss George Bush and his two wars and prescription handouts.
Get rid of the IRS. The IRS? Yes! If the federal government were trimmed down, the 9 million word IRS Code, and all it’s employees could be eliminated. Prosperity? It is unimaginable what would happen if the IRS albatross were lifted from genius American backs. Enough taxes would still be collected from gasoline, travel, telephone, electricity, tariffs, and the two hundred plus other sources of income currently used by the D.C. Gang to support themselves. Too bad, but thousands of CPA’s and pencil pushing accountants might have to do something productive.
There are a lot of really nasty, evil people and governments out there in the world, but I am tired of America’s efforts to force our brand of ’freedom’ and ’democracy’ on others by means of huge armed forces, which gobbles up hundreds of billions each year, and this is only the ’official’ cost, and does not include lost friendships and trust, care and rehab for the wounded, and other hidden costs of America’s worldwide effort to seemingly make everyone hate us. It’s too late to leave Iraq suddenly, but we could certainly declare ’victory’ in Afghanistan and leave quickly, as did the Ruskies exactly 20 years ago, with their tails between their legs. It is impossible to win anything in Afghanistan, because there is nothing to win. It is a land which has been controlled by war-lords, pressure groups, and violence for centuries. They seem to thrive on it, and don’t like our interference. Get OUT, unless anyone in the Congress can show anything good that can come of it, the necessity of it, or the benefit to us of us being there. Any reason at all, with suffice. There are billions of people in the world who don’t give a whit about voting, or copying America’s bankrupt, corrupt system. They’d rather fight their own battles. I am interested in America, not various sand patches and other corruptions in the world who call themselves a ’nation.’
Why do we outrage the Chinese by selling arms to Taiwan? Why do we outrage the Japanese by stationing troops on Okinawa? Why do we still have 37,000 troops in Korea? Why, Why, Why? Terrorism would instantly be zero, if we got all our troops out of all the places in the world where they are. In other words declare absolute NEUTRALITY. The Swiss don’t worry about terrorism, as they mind their own business! Would the CIA be needed if we were neutral and minded out own business? (Is it needed anyway, looking at its record?) Trillions saved, and with all the savings, the buck would rebound and be the envy of the world. Obviously, get rid of the Federal Reserve, and 17th Amendment as well. Get out of the United Nations, and get them out of America. Stop paying into the World Bank and IMF, and stop trying to fix the world, as it only breaks us. There should be no more ’Executive Orders,’ since there is no such permission granted to the President in the Constitution. This prohibition alone, would save billions.
The ’War on Drugs’ should cease, since it is about as impossible to succeed as was prohibition, and then the “ATF” can go also, which is the division of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. No, I have never done or taken drugs, but if you want to get rid of something, the way to do it is by swaying public opinion, which is what has happened to make America the most smoke free nation on earth, while not making tobacco illegal.
The above is only a partial list of things I would do to balance the budget, make America thrive again, and turn Washington D.C. into a ghost town with a 75% unemployment rate. Let the ex-bureaucrats look for a productive job. Obama and his Democrats are copying, word for word, every single thing FDR did in his failed effort to get America out of the Great Depression. Literally, EVERYTHING. FDR finally gave up, and virtually forced the Japs to bomb Pearl Harbor. How? He cut off their fuel, use of the Panama Canal, plus all sorts of trade prohibitions, blockades, and harassments, in an effort to ’get even’ for the Japs’ brutal invasion and inhuman treatment of the Chinese a decade earlier. As usual, it was none of our business, but it surely did get us out of the depression. Is something similar in sight for us…again?
It is impossible to spend your way out of a depression, any more than it is possible to run up your credit cards to become solvent or prosperous. Creating debt, solves nothing, and makes it all even worse. Free us. Get rid of bureaucracy, and watch us prosper. Get government off our backs, and we may not be scared to hire and start a business. As it is, every time we turn on the news, we are further harassed and regulated by government. We fired our employees to stay solvent, now Mr. Obama, you fire your bureaucrats to make the government solvent, and we’ll all be happy.
P.S. I wonder what is in store on Thursday? Iran has promised us something on 2/11.
