Let’s forget about those foreign victims of their own politicos, and concentrate on our own. Politicians are always ready to find any possible way to spend money to get votes. Unfortunately, the Founders inserted a single phrase in Section One, Article Eight of our Constitution, and that little phrase was taken as it was supposed to be taken for over a hundred years, but no longer. That phrase authorizes Congress to pay for the “General welfare of the United States…” For over one hundred years, politicians took it for what the Founders meant it to mean, and that is that the Congress shall be concerned with the ’general welfare’ of the states, not individual citizens.
When FDR and his minions discovered that phrase could be twisted to mean individuals, we were off to a future bankruptcy, insolvency, and a ruined nation. Economics is a very important part of governing, and the economic illiteracy or plain evil of politicians over the last 77 years, is disgusting…to put it mildly. The desire of politicians to ’help’ people, things, organizations, clubs, minorities, poor, neighborhoods, businesses, farmers, corporations, destitute, and most especially voters, has become such an ingrained habit, that the chain will never be broken, outside of total and complete bankruptcy and worthless dollars. The buck has already lost 98% of its purchasing power in the last 77 years, but it has been gradual, and not noticeable to most, other than occasional “Oh! Prices have gone up.” That’s putting it mildly.
Not to bore you, but the nickel phone call, soft drink, and candy bar are gone. The dime trolley ride and movie ticket for matinees are gone also, as are new row houses for well under $5,000. Whether they are actually evil, or just stupid, is up for grabs, but the point is that like the ocean liner with a small leak which grows larger, it eventually will sink, because there aren’t enough bilge pumps to keep it afloat when the leak becomes unmanageable. THE SAME THING IS TRUE WITH ECONOMICS. The politicians have spent so much on handouts, wars, and subsidies of all sorts and variations, that the ship of the nation is sinking. Rather than ordering new pumps or plugging the leak, the politicians are merely re-arranging the deck chairs and telling the passengers that all is well. It’s normal for pilots not to be truthful to passengers as the plane heads for an ocean crash, for the ship’s captain not to tell the absolute truth, and the stock broker who has lost his client’s money, to assure him that ’it will go up, don’t worry.’ American citizens have been so brainwashed about what is really going on, that they have no concept of the actual reality.
The actual reality, truth, fact, or whatever, is that the politicians have spent us into a death spiral from which there is no recovery, as far as I can see. Gloom and doom? I suppose so, but at least I am telling the truth. Look at the facts, which no politician can deny. The current national debt, as I write this, is over $12.5 trillion, and growing rapidly. The committed debt for Medicare, Social Security and other committed spending, is probably $125 trillion, an amount that is so large and incomprehensible, that virtually no one can comprehend it. The point is that it is unpayable, even if we were taxed 100%. The way the debt will be paid, is by the printing press, which is the same way that all failed nations have paid their debts, to the chagrin of those who loaned them the money. This means that those who have lots of dollars will be broke. February, 2010, the deficit for one month, was $223 billion, just as an example. Yesterday, a motion was put before the House to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by this fall, and both Republicans and Democrats voted a resounding “NO.”
If welfare were cut off tomorrow, all the troops brought home immediately, and Medicare and Social Security were cut off, or new entrants prohibited, America would be destroyed by outraged citizens. In Greece right now, the riots are blossoming, because of an austerity move by its government to try to act sane and stop spending foolish money. Closing the barn door after the horses have left? We do have 200 million hand guns, you know, with which we could protect ourselves individually, in a small town, but in a big city, forget it. THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY, but based on irrefutable facts. At this point, the politicians are damned if they do, and damned if they don’t. Either way, we, the citizens, are screwed, and I hereby apologize for the word, but it happens to be true. The situation has gone on for 77 years, and no one has seen fit to stop it, because they would lose votes if they did. 535 members of that august body known as the Congress of the United States, and several Presidents who signed the bills, have destroyed the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.
Politicians’ way of hiding the truth, was, and is, to tax every single thing a citizen can use or buy, and raise income taxes, inheritance taxes, utility taxes, telephone taxes, fuel taxes, and hundreds of other taxes, in an attempt to hide what they have done. The fact of the matter, is that the Founders, when they wrote the Constitution, limited the power of government to running a postal service, a few courts, armed forces, and that is about all. Government costs were to be paid with tariffs, and there were to be no federal taxes of any kind.
A free nation, has no government meddling in anything, other than to keep the peace at home. In a free nation, there is no ’public’ anything, much less medical care, schooling, retirement, or various handouts and subsidies. Like the ocean liner sinking, the public school system has about sunk, after leaking for close to a hundred years. Since we have government meddling in, and taxing everything, and still the ship is sinking, it may be too late to save the nation, other than a totally radical solution, which the Tea Parties are advocating. Could we be declared totally neutral, and do away with all foreign aid and foreign troops stationed everywhere? Could we prohibit any new entries into Social Security, and Medicare? Could we disband 90% of the federal government, including the CIA and dozens, if not hundreds of federal bureaucracies? Could we literally turn Washington D.C. into a ghost town? Could we place a million government employees out of work?
Everything government has done to fight foreign wars, regulate, facilitate, subsidize, shelter, boost prices, control, or what have you has done two things. (1) Destroy the strength, mentality, and viability of the citizenry, thereby causing a weak, dependent citizenry, unable to think or educate and care for themselves. (2) Every bureaucracy, regulator, controller, federal employee or agent, no matter how wonderful they may seem, has cost dollars and reduced the mentality and strength of its citizens and currency. When government reduces citizen responsibility to care for itself, the citizenry becomes weak and unable to think. The Unconstitutional wars in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and now Afghanistan, foreign aid, United Nations, IMF, World Bank, CIA, all encompassing welfare state, public housing, and handouts of all sorts, has ruined the nation and its cities, caused the proliferation of gangs, wholesale destruction of private property, ruination of the dollar, unpayable debts, wounded soldiers, hideous waste, and also caused the world to not only steal our manufacturing, but hate us.
“Those who won’t learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.” We haven’t learned, and since the average life span of a prosperous nation is about 200 years, we have outlived the average by quite a few decades. The 535 plus 1 who have destroyed us, still hold office in that bastion of evil, Washington D.C. The solution for those who would save themselves, is to get out of dollars, save in bullion types of gold and silver, (not numismatics), own guns and ammunition, and get out of the big cities. In other words, protect yourself, because it will all come down eventually, and it won’t be pleasant.
P.S. For those of you who watch Glenn Beck, he has a lot of gold sponsors who will be delighted to fool you with their sales pitches. Guess who pays for those expensive commercials? Those guys sitting in little cubicles waiting to sell you those rare coins, aren’t your friends. Colorado Gold does no advertising, has no debts, no employees, and has an A plus rating from the Better Business Bureau. David is my son and Melissa is my daughter. I am the old man. It’s all in the family. I am the Archie Bunker who writes this drivel.
