True Grit

The 1970 Academy Award for John Wayne was for “True Grit.” which was filmed near and around here.  The town of Ridgway was the center of it, and signs of it still remain there almost 40 years later.  In the film, Kim Darby wanted someone with true grit to capture the murderer of her father.  John Wayne was the guy!  The film is superb, a perfect vehicle for the late, lamented, John Wayne.  We had lunch at the “True Grit Cafe” last week, and it occurred to me that what we need today is a “True Grit” congress, population, and attitude in general towards what’s going on now in D.C.

The Revolutionary War brought out true grit in those who became our Founders.  Jefferson wrote, “When in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bonds which have connected them with another….”  In other words, we’re tired of being saddled to Mother England with its taxes, bureaucrats, and endless laws.  We not only want out, but are going to get out.  Those were fighting words. The Colonies were under British law, and as the Declaration said, in many, many descriptive paragraphs, those with true grit had had enough.  The Colonies were full of loyalists who just thought that Mother England was just fine.  Yes, she had levied a lot of taxes on a lot of things, and prohibited trade with other nations, but she was, after all, our mother land, and who were we to try to sever our ties with her?  It took true grit to foster a revolution!

It took true grit for Old Hickory to veto what the Congress had passed, and that was a renewal of the second Federal Reserve.  The first was fostered by Alexander Hamilton, and when Aaron Burr shot him, it was in reality a blessing for young America.  Hamilton, like Lincoln, and far too many Republicans and all Democrats today, think that government is the solution for all ills, rather than the private sector.  It is and has been government, which has caused our ills!

It took true grit for the South to say virtually the same thing that the Revolutionaries said a hundred years earlier. ’We don’t want a strong central government lording over us.  We are getting out.’  They lost, and sure enough, the current Federal Reserve bobbed up in 1913, along with the income tax.  Both need to be removed.  Both have mortally wounded America.

It took true grit to start the Tea Party Movement, and it took true grit for Sarah Palin to resign as Governor of her State.  Lots more true grit is going to be necessary to stop the communistic, socialistic, invasion of our freedoms, as is being practiced by the D.C. Gang, and Obama in particular.  The true grit needed will be for the Tea Party Movement to cleanse the Republican Party of its RINOS, (Republicans in name only), and place true conservatives on the ballots for November.  More true grit will be necessary to get them elected and to turn the Congress over from what it is now, to a true conservative representation of America.  The modern day equivalent of  the loyalists of 235 years ago, will have to be out-voted, if we wish to save America.  This may be our last chance, so let’s do it right.

The Tea Partyers must not try to start their own party, as this will guarantee a win for the Democrats.  Do not be fooled if liberals are planted by the left at Tea Party meetings and gatherings, shouting racial slurs or the like.  It won’t be us that says them or gives the media the wrong impression of us true patriots.  We need to realize that we are indeed the 2010 resurrection of the Revolutionaries of 1776.  We have modern electronic things like Public address systems, TV, the internet, transportation, and a host of things not even dreamed of 235 years ago.  Our current ’loyalists’ are the Democrats and RINOS, who think that every new tax, czar, bureaucracy, law, or mandate, is ’for our own good,’ whereas it only weakens and bankrupts us.  Like the Revolutionaries, we have several Tom Paines to represent us, including Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, and others.  More people watch Fox News than all others combined, and that is a step forward.

Beware of those who find fault in everything, including the American Free Press, which recently sent out a special paper condemning Sarah with no proof, no statistics, and pure bombastic yellow journalism.  The same rag does the same lie procedure to McCain’s wife, Newt, and just about everyone in the conservative field.  Sarah has true grit, and those who condemn everyone, rather than building up the movement, are traitors to the movement.

I mentioned a book I hadn’t received titled, “Our Fathers Weep,” with a sub-title of “It’s the Constitution, stupid.”  Got it and read it.  It’s plain spoken, and doesn’t mince words.  Not for the faint of heart.  Should everyone get it?  I think so, because it lays out our cause bluntly, and plainly.  The writer isn’t a great writer, but he gets his point across.  It’s a good two hour read if you read fast, or three hours for slow readers.  I got mine from Amazon.

All across America, on April 15th, Tea Parties are getting together on court house steps or other places.  Be there!
