Double standards in just about every sector of our life. Here’s parts of a letter to the editor, with a bit of editing, from a guy in Tawas City, wherever that is.
“If we lie to Congress, it’s a felony, and if Congress lies to us, it’s just politics.
If we dislike blacks, we’re racist, and if blacks dislike us, it’s their First Amendment rights.
Government spends millions to rehabilitate criminals and nothing to help their victims.
Public schools teach about homosexuality, but you’d better not use the word “God” in schools.
We don’t burn books in America, we rewrite them and fill them with inaccuracies or blatant exclusions.
We call communists, socialists, and liberals, “Progressives.”
We have 37,000 troops in Korea protecting the 38th parallel, but none on the U.S. Mexico border protecting America.
Pornography on TV or the internet, but you’d better not place a nativity scene in a public place at Christmas time.
We take money from those who work hard for it, and give it to those who don’t want to work.
Parenting has been replaced with Ritalin and video games.
The land of opportunity has become the land of handouts and bribes.”
Here’s a quote from Charles Silberman. “It is not possible to spend any prolonged period visiting public school classrooms, without being appalled by the mutilation visible everywhere. Mutilation of spontaneity, of joy in learning, of pleasure in creating, of sense of self. The public schools, those “killers of the dream,” to appropriate a phrase of Lillian Smith’s, are the kind of institution one cannot really dislike until one gets to know them well. Because adults take the schools so much for granted, they fail to appreciate what grim, joyless places most American schools are, how oppressive and petty are the rules by which they are governed, how intellectually sterile and esthetically barren the atmosphere. What an appalling lack of civility obtains on the part of the teachers and principals, what contempt they unconsciously display for children as children.”
Will there be a correction? Of course, as there always is, but when? We had a brief one Monday, but this morning, gold is at an all time high again. Those who wait for a correction, usually wish they hadn’t. Even on Fox News this morning, a smart guy said that gold will be $3,000 before it’s $500. How true! People around the world are scared, and not just in America. When you are afraid of your governments and endless reams of paper money flowing out from their irresponsible votes and caucuses, smart people want to protect themselves. When it’s cold in winter, you don’t wear shorts or go swimming in the local river. You bundle up and turn on the furnace. When the world looks grim and the presses are running, you don’t place surplus assets in their paper, but you bundle up in gold and silver…if you’re smart. Fortunately, we deal with smart, affluent people, who don’t live from hand to mouth, or take out payday loans. No, we don’t advertise or have to, because our reputation, Better Business Bureau rating (A plus), and word of mouth serves us fine.
