Jobs, are undoubtedly what Obama’s going to speak about Thursday. Jobs are lacking in America. Obama will talk about rebuilding infrastructure, which is not a profit making idea, because naturally, government and the taxpayer will pay for it. He will also talk about raising taxes on the wealthy. Nothing new there, except the earners of $10 million per year, have declined by 55% since he took office, and an equal number of those making a million or even $200,000 a year.. So what about the jobs we need?
90% of all new jobs are created by small business. That’s an iron clad fact, and not supposition. Be it the local lumber yard, super market, pizza joint, or auto repair sales or repair. All are small businesses, and all are local. In my town, the empty stores on Main St. are far too many and are really depressing. Same in all towns. Last weekend, we went to Chama, New Mexico and rode the train to Antonito Colorado. Wonderful trip. Do it, and ride on the parlor car. Chama has so many empty stores, businesses, gas stations, etc. that it makes my town look healthy. Came back by way of Silverton Colorado, and the business situation there is down substantially. Down everywhere, in the small business field, which creates all the new jobs. Rebuilding bridges or highways will not help that situation, nor will increasing taxes. People in general are terrified about what the future may hold. Why? Because of total uncertainty about the economy, and whether they can survive.
To hire, a businessman needs to be optimistic and confident about his business future, or if he is risking his savings to start one, he must also have those same mental characteristics. Optimistic that his business can operate and sell at a profit, and confident that customers have enough money to buy them. A businessman needs to be certain that two years from now, he can remain in business, show a profit, and keep his employees working. If the would be or current businessman can’t be certain of the future, he won’t hire, nor will he invest in a new business. The current economic situation is a total negative about the future and even the current conditions. In 2014, Obamacare will go into full operation, and that alone is enough to discourage new hires or new investment.
To start a new business, the licenses and red tape one must go through, are a nightmare, and most of the red tape concerns federal rules and mandates. The federal bureaucracy is a nightmare. Will you follow clean air acts, hire minorities, pollute the air, or build on ground on which pollution might have occurred 100 years ago? Dig it up and check before you can build. The red tape is huge, and I have heard at least 14 separate licenses and permits must be paid for and satisfied for a new business to get going.
Know why bypasses have been built around cities? To make travel easier and avoid entanglements of red lights, congestion, and things which get in the way of fast travel. City congestion, made a bypass feasible. Red tape and bureaucracy, has been the equivalent of city congestion, when starting and running a business, and there can be no bypass built, unless government gets out of the way. If Obama wants to help the economy, he would negate all 80,000 pages of regulations written this year, and the Congress would totally get rid of Obamacare. If the post office wants to stop losing $9 billion a year, they will stop acting stupid and cease carrying heavy business ads and brochures for a nickel or less. If the jobs picture is to improve, government will have to GET OUT OF THE WAY, just like a city bypass avoids traffic congestion.
The congestion which government creates, is so bad, that the average citizen has no idea of it. In the Silverton, Colorado area, which I am very familiar with, (I owned three hotels there at one time), there were many many gold mines. All are closed. Is all the gold gone? Heavens no! Why are they closed? Because of the EPA, MSHA, and other federal bureaucracies. It is virtually impossible to mine gold and silver in America today, and even other things, because of a thick cobweb of rules, created by the spiders in Washington, none of which were elected by the mine owners, nor you and I. These self appointed masters of harassment, have killed the mining industry. Even if you could get the ore out of the ground, it has to be milled, and a mill has to meet so many pollution, noise, and every other conceivable rule, that milling would be virtually impossible, even if the mill were in existence and operable. Then that ore has to be smelted. Smelting is illegal in America, thanks to the greenies, so the ore would have to be shipped to Korea or the like, for smelting. There are but two operating gold mines in America as far as I know, and there are still millions of tons of ore in the ground wanting to me mined. It will never happen, thanks to government.
Government is trying to stop Boeing from building a plant in South Carolina, which would hire many hundreds of workers. Since Boeing is union in Seattle, government thinks they can force unionism in South Carolina, which is a non union state. Should Boeing build a plant in Mexico or Korea to make the planes, rather than in South Carolina? Try to build anything, or make anything in America, and you are up against a brick wall of D.C. rules, and regulations which are insurmountable. Want to create jobs, Mr. President? Then GET OUT OF THE WAY, YOU AND YOUR CONGRESS AND BUREAUCRATS. Nice speech in Michigan, Mr. President. Maybe you don’t realize it, but it was Michigan that was the birthplace of the Tea Party movement, which aims to oust you and the Democrats and Rinos in the next election.
P.S. Here’s the lettering on a sign that I bought in Chama.
PUBLIC NOTICE
Due to recent budget cuts, the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, plus the current state of the economy, the light at the end of the tunnel HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. Have a nice day.
