In 1924, Harold Gray started a comic strip titled, “Little Orphan Annie,” and it became a wildly popular radio show in the 30’s and 40’s, with announcer Pierre Andre, and a theme song, “It’s Little Orphan Annie Time.” The radio show and comic strip became so famous, that a Broadway show, “Annie,” was hugely successful and was made into a movie. Why do I write about this? Because most readers of this screed know that like Ron Paul, I am totally against America’s trying to convert the world into democracy, with the consequent destroying of the dollar and millions of dead, and injured American troops. Keep reading!
Eisenhower warned us about the ’military-industrial complex,’ and that warning has become so true. Little Orphan Annie, was derived from James Whitcomb Riley’s 1885 poem, “Little Orphant Annie.” Annie was adopted by Daddy Warbucks, which is the key to this column. Daddy Warbucks, got his name from the fact that he got big “bucks,” being an industrialist who made huge sums of money during World War One, (Warbucks) making guns, bullets, and war paraphernalia. What does America make and at huge profits for the manufacturers? Guess what? Guns, bullets, airplanes, uniforms, and war paraphernalia!
Who has been against this nonsense from the gitgo? Ron Paul, myself, and libertarians around the world. Is there any good reason why the Congress allowed George Bush, Barack Obama, LBJ, JFK, and Jimmy Carter to wage war without its permission, and an official declaration of war, as is required by our Constitution? Without America getting into WW I, unconstitutionally, there would have been no “Daddy Warbucks,” and Annie and her dog Sandy, might have not been adopted, or even turned into a comic strip. Daddy Warbucks was a main character in “Little Orphan Annie.” Daddy Warbucks became so rich from WW I, that in 2006, Forbes Magazine made him the richest of the top wealthy fictitious characters.
If you’re curious, Annie was a poor, red headed, orphan child, who always wore a red dress, with vacant eyes, and was abused by a mean old matron in charge of the orphanage. She was adopted by a severe Mrs. Warbucks, ’on trial,’ and her husband took a liking to the child, instructing her to call him “Daddy Warbucks.” Annie was a strong little girl who saved a little puppy from a gang of bad boys in 1925, and named him Sandy. Sandy subsequently rescued Annie from a gang of gypsy kidnappers. The strip became a daily, and made Harold Gray very wealthy, as did ’Charlie Brown’ and his friends, do the same for Charles Schulze. In 1951, Harold Gray told an interviewer that he got his idea for Annie, when he was walking around Chicago looking for a cartoon idea. He came across a ragamuffin who had a determined attitude and was a tough little scamp, who became “Annie” in his strip.
Isn’t it about time that America realized that the entire world doesn’t want to become a democracy, and deeply resents us trying to change them? I’m sick of modern day Daddy Warbucks. We worry about “terrorism,” and fail to realize that any terrorism, is caused by our invading the nations from which the terrorists come from, and whose lands have been invaded by us. What a total waste of money, lives, resources, reputation, and armed forces. We should defend our borders, get rid of the welfare system, and give everyone under 55, their money back which they have paid into Social Security and Medicare. That will give them a few years to get themselves in shape for retirement, and we’d be rid of it in less than ten years.
Cutting the welfare rolls drastically, will result in fratricidal warfare in the big cities among the underclass, but they have already destroyed their neighborhoods anyway, so nothing lost…except them! Those inner city wars among the trash population, could mean really great danger for other residents, and that’s why I have been urging for years, to get out of the big cities if you can.
