I’ve been sending Sheriff Joe Arpaio $25 every so often for years, and have never regretted it. I wish the sheriff in my county would emulate Sheriff Joe, of Maricopa County Arizona a little bit. I found a book titled “Joe’s Law” at a book sale, and I really enjoyed it. Half of it tells of his record as a DEA agent in Turkey, a cop in D.C. and other pursuits of law enforcement. Joe is a couple of years older than me, so he is getting up there. I love his Sheriffing, and the things he does with his prisoners is amazing. He’s been re-elected five times, his approval rate is over 80%, and it’s no wonder.
Since Maricopa Jails were full, he got free surplus tents from the US army to house his prisoners. They’re cooled, and on concrete bases, so no one is hurting. He allows no smoking, alcohol, coffee, porn magazines, and initially no TV, but the bureaucrats got after him about that, so he gives them the weather and Disney channels. He makes those who can’t speak it, learn English. He has male and female chain gangs, but those are only voluntary. No one is forced to go on a chain gang, but those who do, get rewarded.
Prisoners wear pink underwear and pink handcuffs are used also. An escapee wouldn’t get far in pink. His prisoners care for homeless dogs on a voluntary basis, and actually just about everything other than being in jail, is voluntary. Do the prisoners hate him? If so, only because he has them incarcerated, but not for ill treatment. He could never get away with that, and he knows it. Joe teaches them the words to God Bless America, and makes them sing it every morning. Great!
In 1996, Joe started the “Alpha Program,” which is an outpatient drug and alcohol abuse treatment program, only open to sentenced inmates who go through a rigorous screening process, including individual interviews to determine their motivation, and background checks to ensure they do not constitute risks to the general jail population. They must enroll in anger management, job preparedness, computer learning lab, and a GED course. They must have perfect attendance records. Alpha is six months of intensity, and includes psychological, practical, and educational challenges. The goal is to give inmates new thinking patterns, and graduates are totally new people. Sheriff Joe Arpaio is highly successful, and of course is under national criticism and even lawsuits from the feds and other liberal groups.
In Joe’s jail, female inmates get to participate in their daughters Girl Scout troops, and all inmates get instruction on all aspects of getting a job and keeping it. Joe’s idea of stopping illegals, is to install tents at the borders, and those caught crossing would be locked up immediately, and sentenced to six months in a tent. That would work very well I am sure! They wouldn’t risk trying it again, I’ll bet.
Coyotes are the ones who transport illegals, and Joe’s department is the only one in the nation which goes after the coyotes as well as the illegals they carry. His idea is to arrest everybody involved in illegal transport, sponsors, financiers, and not just the illegals.. Joe has thousands in his posses, and many different ones. All are totally voluntary, and all supply their own uniforms, guns, and must undergo months of instruction before they are in a posse. Joes’ posses cost the county absolutely nothing, but will do search and rescue, crowd control, and everything imaginable needed to save and serve citizens, as well as capture illegals.
Joe is deeply into the drug war, and doesn’t admit that it is a failure, but continually seizes millions of dollars worth of drugs from illegals, and of course millions of dollars more are coming into America as fast as others are seized. (I still think drugs should be legalized, beginning with marijuana, but Joe disagrees.) Imagine America if every county had a sheriff like Joe Arpaio.
Why doesn’t America act like New Zealand and Canada? If you want to immigrate there, you must either be rich or have some needed talent. None others accepted. Why do we need more illiterates, non English speaking, talentless, endlessly reproducing, riff raff, who bring no benefits to America of any kind, and endlessly suck at the public trough of welfare and a hundred other taxpayer benefits? No job? No entry. No talent? No entry. No wealth? Sorry, we’re full. No sponsor? Forget it. How is America improved, by permitting talentless, poor, illegal immigrants to enter by the millions, and not deport them as fast as they are caught? Dream Act? Obama’s latest ploy? Not for me. Build a fence two storeys high, and man it with guards. Those caught will spend six months in a hot tent, and then be sent back. Those here? Send them back if they’re illegal. Americans won’t do that hard work? Then they’ll starve, because I’d cut out all welfare.
Why shouldn’t English be the official language, and all documents be in English? Why should I have to “Press one for English?” I don’t want to learn Spanish, Tex-Mex, or whatever. I know my language, and my country speaks it. That’s enough for me.
