Lies and Liars

Remember the old expression, “lies, lies, and damned lies?”  I am so awfully sick of President Obama’s continual lying in his commercials, speeches, and of course in the debates Tuesday night.  When one lies about another, it casts an undeserved shadow of distrust on the victim, and Mitt is the victim.

If Jim Jones is totally innocent of any wrongdoing, and a man who doesn’t like Jim Jones, starts a rumor that Jim Jones is cheating on his wife, it may ruin Jim Jones’ reputation and even his marriage.  He did nothing wrong, but a liar has cast a shadow over his reputation, and the repercussions could be disastrous.  Maybe Jim Jones could lose his job if such a lie got to his boss.

In 1589, Martin Luther said, “A liar is far worse, and does greater mischief, than a murderer on the highway; for a liar and false teacher, deceives people, seduces souls, and destroys them.”  And even Beethoven said, “Whoever tells a lie is not pure of heart.”

Did you notice in the debate, that Obama continually said that Mitt did this, did that, said this or that, stood for this or that, and none of it was true?  What can a man who is lied about, do to straighten his name?  To put it mildly, it is difficult.  Obama is a slick orator, and even without his teleprompters, he did very well with his lies and accusations.  Did you notice that Mitt merely said that we can’t afford another four years like the last four years, and I can’t remember him ever using Obama’s name, whereas Obama used the name “Romney” probably a hundred times, and in connection with false accusations.  Mitt did the best hew could, but the moderator Candy Crowley, was Obama’s best friend.  Mitt had two enemies: Candy Crowley and Barak Obama.

I seem to be full of quotes today, but try this one on for size:  Thomas Carlyle said, in 1866, “Can there be a more horrible object in existence, than an eloquent man not speaking the truth?” In the debate, Obama won with the delivery, full of exaggerations and outright lies, and Mitt won on truths and logic.

The polls say that women like Obama more than Mitt, even though there could never be a more warm, loving, family man, than Mitt.  Maybe in “The Beggar’s Opera,” in 1728, the following was said and is true:  “Men were born to lie, and women to believe them.”

I have decided not to retire, but to take some vacations in our new motor home.  Maybe a couple of weeks at a time.  It’s so nice to come home!  I doubt that I would buy a winter home in Texas or Florida, because our winters here aren’t that severe.  Last winter, we had a total of 5″ of snow, and I don’t think the temperature ever went below 10 above zero.  Thirty miles away, are three 14,000 foot peaks that are already covered with beautiful snow, while here, the leaves are just beginning to change.  We live in what we call ’the banana belt,’ with 300 days of sunshine, and what most think of as Colorado winters with lots of snow and sub zero temperatures, simply do not exist here.  The motor home is fun, but a couple of weeks in it, is about all we probably could stand.  It’s ever so nice to come home!  The phones aren’t going to be disconnected, and I’ll be around.  I love what I do, but at age 78, soon to be 79, we are going to do some traveling in winters.  “We,” being my wife Bonnie, and our two little dogs.  With a 26 foot motor home, you can drive it anywhere, about like a car, and don’t have to worry about motels that take dogs, towing a small car, or  being stuck with a bog box on four wheels.  It only gets 10-12 miles per gallon of gas, but it’s far cheaper and convenient than a motel at a hundred bucks a night, and you can drive it all day at 75MPH.

P.S. you really should consider getting out of the big cities, where the riots and unbelievable crimes will occur as the economic situation gets worse and worse.  No matter who gets elected, the debts are unpayable, other than with printing press money, which means that savings in dollars will evaporate, and there might be no end of violence and turbulence.  Here, a rally nice three bedroom home can be bought for well under $200,000, with property taxes of about $800 a year.  Been here 21 years and love it
