The Left Coast

Mitt hasn’t a chance to win “The Left Coast,” as many wags call California.  California used to be a strongly Republican state, decades ago, when Ronnie Reagan was governor, but all that has changed with the influx of Mexican illegals, huge welfare disbursements, terrible schools manned with union teachers, foul air, millions of miles of choked freeways, high fuel prices, and Democrat controlled legislatures for decades.  Maybe you don’t realize just how fouled up California is, and especially Los Angeles County. If you don’t, here are some facts, as told by the Los Angeles Times.  The following applies to Los Angeles County California.

(1) 40% of all workers in Los Angeles County, which has a population of 10.2 million, are working for cash, and of course not paying taxes.  This is because they are predominantly illegals, without a green card.

(2) 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles, are for illegal aliens.

(3) 75% of people on the most-wanted list in Los Angeles, are for illegals.

(4)  Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal aliens.  Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births are paid for by taxpayers.  Are the babies then citizens?

(5)  Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers, are Mexican nationals, here illegally.

(6)  Over 300,000 illegals in Los Angeles County are living in garages.

(7)  The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegals from south of the border

(8)  Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegals.

(9) 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.

(10)  In L.A. County, 5.1 million speak English, and 4.9 million speak Spanish

Less than 2% of illegals are picking crops, but 29% are on welfare.  Over 70% of the United States’ annual population growth, and over 90% in California, Florida, and New York, results from illegal immigration, and 29% of federal prisons are populated with illegal aliens.

From an article in the Wall Street Journal in August,  “Nearly four million more people have left California in the last two decades, than have moved there from other states.  This is a sharp contrast from the 1980’s, when 100,000 more Americans were settling in California each year, than were leaving.  Part of California’s dysfunction, stems from state and local government restrictions on development, causing home prices to escalate in coastal areas.  Things will only get worse in coming years as Democrat governor Jerry Brown and his green cadre, implement their ’smart growth plans’ to cram the proletariat into high density housing.”

The article continues to point out things like the cap and trade law AB32. which will raise the cost of energy, and drive out manufacturing jobs, without even making a dent in the global carbon emissions.  California’s electricity prices are already 50% higher than the national average.  According to the Tax Foundation, California has the 48th worst business tax climate, and Democrats want to raise taxes even more. The welfare recipients aren’t leaving, and why should they?  Thy get much better benefits in California or New York (both states will go strongly for Obama), than if they go to Texas.  In Texas, the expectation is that people work.

Continuing, the Wall Street Journal piece notes that almost all the major tech companies have moved stuff to Salt Lake City, and this includes Twitter, Adobe, and Oracle.  Apple has just announced that it’s building a $304 million campus in Austin Texas, adding 3,600 jobs.  Facebook established operations there last year, and E-Bay plans to add 1,000 new jobs in Austin also.  Even Hollywood is doing more of its filming on the Gulf Coast.  “New Orleans is the best bargain for urban living in the United States.  It’s got great food, great music, and it’s inexpensive,” sums up the Journal article.

I am not going to leave Colorado, because I love my 300 days of sunshine a year, low humidity, low property taxes, and the lack of everything California Democrats and government have foisted upon their hapless citizenry.  No wonder they’re leaving!

Is the gold correction over?  It’s up $16 this morning!  A year from now, I would predict $2500 gold if Obama gets elected, and $2,000 if Mitt wins.  Either way, the debt is unpayable, other than with printing presses, which means that all tangibles have to go up in paper dollar prices.
