ONE COLUMN A WEEK. WEDNESDAYS ONLY
I keep running onto some of my old columns, and I think some of them are very worthwhile, even though a bit dated. There’s lots to write about currently, but refreshing one’s memory isn’t too bad an idea either. Try this one on for size. It’s from 1992, and a bit long.
In March of 1991, a negro felon named Rodney King was eventually stopped by Los Angeles police, after being chased on freeways, supposedly at 115 miles per hour. When he was finally stopped, police suspected King was under the influence of drugs, in addition to being obviously drunk, abusive, belligerent, and bellicose. King is a big, husky man, over six feet tall, and with a long police record. While the chase was proceeding, the police were checking King’s license tag number by radio, so knew in advance they were up against a tough hombre. Eventually, 21 police cars were on the scene. King was finally corralled, with immense difficulty.
When King was finally stopped, a neighbor, trying out his new camcorder, taped the capture. The media showed only the last 81 seconds, rather than the whole tape, which set the stage for what was to follow. It was 81 seconds that rocked America, and seemingly recorded a case of police brutality, at least by one officer. Four of the 21 were charged with using unnecessary force, and three were acquitted. The fourth, officer Powell, had a hung jury, and this was declared a mistrial. By looking at the video tape, it is pretty obvious that Powell was probably being overly violent. He bragged about it on police radio afterwards, which was part of the record. In other words, a jury decided, after hearing three months of exhaustive, minutely detailed testimony, that three were innocent, and one, Powell, was thought to be partly guilty by some of that jury. The interviewed jury said that no other verdict was possible after seeing the full tape, and considering all the evidence.
It must be pointed out, that of the three occupants of King’s car, two of them peacefully obeyed police orders, submitted to handcuffing, and were in no way harmed by police. When King was finally subdued, no further blows by police batons were inflicted. Since the trial, King has been arrested more times, for wife beating and drunk driving. King has reportedly been offered $8 million as a settlement for his injuries, which if true, isn’t bad for a few blows administered by cops trying to arrest you while in a fit of drunken resistance!
When the verdict was announced, after seven days of deliberations, rioting immediately broke out in South Central Los Angeles, and continued for several days, causing 55 deaths, a billion dollars in actual property damage, over 13,000 arrested, and massive, uncontrolled arson fires, looting, and violence, all over the Los Angeles area. Additional hundreds of millions of dollars worth of merchandise was looted from shops.
A white male, driving his gravel truck through the area, was pulled out of his cab, and beaten to within an inch of his life. Millions watched, as a live TV camera in a helicopter, showed Reginald Denny being brutalized, stomped, and every possible type of physical abuse being rained down upon him by male negroes, ’because he was white.’ Whites were horrified, but did not riot and burn their neighborhoods over this event. Denny will recover, while another hapless white driver was killed, for ’being white.’ This violence was supposedly the result of the jury verdict, exonerating three of the four officers. The media, not unexpectedly, decided to agree with the looters, ignoring the fact Powell was not exonerated, and loudly bellowed that the inner cities were long neglected, racism was prevalent, police were brutal, and on and on, with the usual liberal claptrap. If the media had shown the entire tape, rather than only the final 81 seconds, the entire thing may not have occurred. Is the media responsible for the riots? They still have never shown the entire tape, which supposedly casts an entirely different shadow on the affair.
George Bush and Congress, in an obvious political ploy, decided to send over a billion dollars in federal aid. Question: Where does the federal government get all the money for this “aid?” Answer: From our taxes or printing press money, which increases the national debt. There is no such thing as “federal aid.” It is merely a transfer of my wealth to someone else, or further debasing the currency I use with which to live, and without my permission or vote. I am outraged, but will not riot, loot, or burn.
If I burned my home or business, and had no insurance, will the federal government rebuild it for me? In 1965 and 1966, negroes burned their neighborhoods around America, and the fed rebuilt them with massive taxpayer funds. Why? Isn’t it the job of a municipality to provide police and fire protection, paving, trash collection, water, and sewer for everyone at the same levels? Why is it appropriate for any government to provide more service for one neighborhood than another? Isn’t a neighborhood’s character decided 100% by the taste, race, wealth, and concern of its inhabitants? Isn’t this truism borne out by the fact that all races, as they climb the ladder of success, move to a neighborhood that is better?
As for the L.A. riots, the problem was not a jury’s verdict, but sheer lawlessness of a few, costing 25,000 jobs, bankrupting innocents, and destroying neighborhoods. It was a circus of worthless, probably welfare receiving, young, male, negro thugs, doing “their thing.” They were joined by Hispanics after it got going, as well as women, and even children. The L.A. police were accused of failure to respond in a ’timely way,’ and allowing it to get started, without trying to stop it. The media ignored the fact that a prominent negro L.A. councilman told chief Gates, to, “go easy,” when it started.
The idea that the riot was a “normal reaction” to a jury verdict, is a lie. Let’s blame the police, poverty, not enough “programs,” (a word I despise), and every possible thing under the sun, except that it was a band of renegades, that should have been shot on the spot when they looted, torched, killed, maimed, and destroyed their neighborhoods. On May 12th, an “official,” brought in to analyze the riots, with the customary 20/20 hindsight, moaned that it would be horrible if people began defending themselves, rather than depending on the police!
In Koreatown, 2,000 businesses were wantonly destroyed, because of insane jealousy some negroes have for these innocent, achieving people. Throughout America, Koreans have bought abandoned, mutilated properties in the slums of U.S. cities, rehabilitated them, and started businesses. Like the Jews, Germans, Poles, Irish, Russians, and others of a century ago, they have learned the language, lived above the store, saved, worked around the clock, and succeeded. This disgusts the welfare receiving, non achieving, who regularly burn, boycott, and rob the Koreans, who mostly struggle, starting at the bottom, in the worst, cheapest locations, as has been the the customary way for entrepreneurs to begin their rise to the top of the American ladder of affluence and success. The Koreans, are merely following a time tested formula for advancement in America. Resentment of success and progress, is a result of the welfare system, which keeps recipients at the bottom. Koreans want no part of welfare, but want to rise on their own efforts and initiative, which outrages bottom of the heap, handout receivers.
The all too obvious answer to all the screams of the liberal media about “poor education, poor self esteem, bad family life, single parent households, poverty, lack of opportunity,” etc, ad infinitum, ad nauseum, ad continuum, of the residents of South Central L.A., is that they have had the same opportunities, same schools, same water, sewer, street paving, police protection, fire protection, as the Koreans and the rest of us, plus billions in welfare, public housing, and various perks, such as preferential job treatment and other “programs.” Governmental wealth transfers, help no one, other than initially, and harm everyone in the end. The recipients, often see no reason to work, and those from whom it is taken, become unwilling or unable to continue to achieve, since it has been taken from them.
The L.A. riots, are an obvious derivative and aftermath of decades of “programs.” This should be as obvious as 2+2=4. More money being dumped into the area, and more “programs,” handouts, and freebies, will only further destroy an already decayed moral fabric. The 13,000 arrested, should be imprisoned to the full limit of the law, with no exceptions. In the future, police everywhere, should be instructed to shoot to kill, any arsonist, rioter, or looter, at any time. What else can be given to “them?” For 30 years, since they last burned their neighborhoods, every possible handout has been gleefully given by Republicans and Democrats alike. Nothing has been accomplished, other than to make the latest riot, much worse than the last, and having additional children born and ushered into the slums of violence and the welfare system.
I always pity innocent victims, and certainly the innocent casualties of the L.A. riots. Thousands lost their jobs, homes, businesses, and life savings, at the hands of a small band of worthless looters and ravagers. To forgive these miscreants, because of the above mentioned poverty, et al, is absurd. I say, leave those neighborhoods alone. If the criminals are put away, they will not be around to do it again. Let the market operate. What will happen, is that redevelopment will occur as the market forces dictate, which is always as it should be. If L.A. protects its citizenry, by allowing them to purchase firearms freely, and defend themselves, the city will blossom. Even South Central L.A. Police can never be depended upon for total protection, It is a physical impossibility. A well armed citizenry, is the only solution to what happened, plus the police being instructed to shoot to kill any rioter, arsonist, murderer, or looter. Capital punishment, should be the ordinary course of criminal prosecution in America.
The L.A. riots, were merely the result of decades of race coddling, welfare, and an almost total lack of criminal punishment in America. The result of lenient judges, parole, insanity pleas, and myriads of other hocus pocus nonsense, which for far too long, has protected the guilty, and left innocents exposed to further harassment, victimization, and bankruptcy. If ever a wholesale expose’ of the welfare system and absurd judicial practices of America were possible, the L.A. riots are it, in a gold frame, with Technicolor and 3-D.
P.S. Maybe if Romney had spoken in the tone of this 20 year old column, he might have won!
