Twenty three years ago, I wrote a book titled, “I Hold These Truths.” It had 355 pages and believe it or not, 86 chapters. It was my opinion on 86 different subjects, I have opinions on hundreds of subjects, but in 1991, I decided to write some of them down. I had a couple thousand printed, and they were sold pretty quickly. I never thought about it again, till I loaned one to a client of mine who saw it on a bookshelf. After she had read 13 chapters, she called me and told me that the book is (was) dynamite, and I should reprint it. “That’s nice,” I told myself, went to the bookshelf and began reading the book, probably for the first time in 22 years. I am quite surprised, and think she might be correct. I have approached publishers and won’t go that way, so I am considering a re-print of a thousand, and maybe a thousand at a time if it sells. The book could be printed, delivered to me, and re-shipped to a buyer, for $9.95 each. No profit really, but that’s OK, as we do well brokering precious metals. I’d hire someone to ship them, and could still do it for $9.95 total. The reason I won’t go to a publisher, is that they set the price, and they would set it at $21.95, and give me 25%, if they sold any. I will set the price at $9.95. I am of the opinion that books cost far too much. “I Hold These Truths,” might have the title changed to perhaps, “I Still Hold These Truths.”
You wouldn’t believe my opinions on things, I am certain. They are free thought-logical-plain spoken, I guess, and most of the chapters are on subjects few ever even think about. It is not a political book, but a logical book, for people who think, and know that America is totally screwed up, and not just in politics. Thumbing through the book, a classic example might be chapter 30, titled simply, “TRASH.” Why would anyone even think about trash? The chapter follows, and I am wondering if it makes sense to anyone, or might arouse interest. It is an exact quote with no changes. It was written in 1991, and in the entire 86 chapters, I haven’t changed my mind one bit. I’d be interested in your reaction. It’s a toll free number 1-888-786-8822 for your opinion, and a brief yes or no would be appreciated. I don’t have a caller ID, don’t want your name or anything, and it’s my regular number, so be brief, as I sell gold and silver on that line. I have but a couple of the originals, so don’t ask for one, although I did see one on Amazon a year ago for $195.00!
TRASH
“It’s all the rage now, making prime time news and the front pages of newspapers. Where are we going to put the ever increasing amount of rubbish being discarded by Americans? We’re familiar with the photos of landfills growing like Topsy, trash trucks continually regurgitating tons and tons of newspapers, tin cans, old tires, and the offal of a civilized society. Even if there weren’t a space problem, landfills are costing us a fortune.
“One of the advantages of being old (or at least advanced middle age!), is the ability to remember when things which now are problems, weren’t, and why not. Where did we put the trash fifty years ago? Simple! We burned it! Today, burning trash is an illegal act in most places, because of strict laws propagated by the EPA. But, is burning trash all that bad? Trash has been burned for literally thousands of years.
“The smog and putrid air over major cities, is not caused by burning trash, which is EXTERNAL COMBUSTION, but by millions of autos and trucks, using INTERNAL COMBUSTION engines. External combustion, is simply burning something in either an enclosed or open space, but not under compression. Internal combustion engines burn petroleum under high compression, and their exhaust combines with ambient air, and causes highly toxic and ugly ’brown clouds’ over cities around the world. Smog from internal combustion engines, is decaying priceless buildings, statuary, and even auto paint, besides causing the death of trees and other living things. External combustion causes none of this.
“Steam locomotives and coal burning furnaces, for 150 years, caused dirty cities streaked with soot and grime. Coal burning, was and is, external combustion. Coal smoke does not turn into smog. External combustion, causes soot and ash, which falls to the ground or seas as a nutrient. Smog ruins things. The point is that burning trash does not cause air pollution, other than for the amount of time it takes for the ash to fall to earth. Smog hangs there indefinitely, and poisons us. The fire that decimated Yellowstone Park, was more fire than would be created by cities burning trash for fifty years. Yet there was no smog type air pollution created. It all fell to earth and became fertilizer. The air remained clear. In Kuwait, six million barrels of oil burned every day, under external combustion conditions, not internal combustion. No smog, and no ill effects, just smoke. The Yellowstone fires, Mt. St. Helens eruption, Kuwait, and yes, trash burning, are simple, natural, external combustion, causing smoke, with the resulting ash and soot becoming instant fertilizer wherever it falls. Trash has been burned throughout all of recorded history, and no one has ever been the worse for it.
“What hasn’t been going on for all of recorded history, are hundreds of millions of internal combustion engines burning petroleum, and literally ruining the earth with their chemical exhausts. Trash should be burned, householders should once again be allowed to burn leaves in fall, and we should all stop worrying about external combustion. There is enough money being wasted each year for landfills, compaction, and hauling of trash from place to place, to give every American a nice cash bonus each year, which could be spent on consumer goods, helping America’s economy. The EPA, is probably the most out of control bureaucracy ever conceived by the dim bulbs of Congress and the White House. It is making life unbearable for the citizen as well as the businessman. Burn trash, just exactly as man has done since his beginning. The earth loves ashes falling on its farms and gardens as enrichment for the soil.”
The chapters are short and to the point, with each subject. Among the subjects, are Post Office, guns, shortages, corporations, foreign aid, truck brakes, public schools, prisons, Mafia, taxes, public art, entitlements, handicapped, homeless, etc. 86 in all. I’d like your opinions.
P.S. I had a gal call me looking for a job. At her last job, selling numismatics with a big firm who is in Durango, Colorado, she bragged that she made “Over 300 cold calls a day.” I was shocked! I told her that we will keep it in the family, and WE NEVER CALL ANYONE!. We don’t! She was amazed. If they ever get your phone number, you will be bombarded with ’cold calls’ or other calls. How awful!
