A Scientific Approach?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could predict the benefit of government programs (I know that is an oxymoron) with almost 100% certainty?  Wouldn’t that just make all of this insane political nonsense completely irrelevant?  Can you just hear a politician saying, ?We’ve used scientific data and sophisticated modeling and determined that more government spending won’t solve our problems.? What a concept, huh?

I was just watching a Sunday news program and one of the liberals on the panel was imploring us to totally regulate the economy.  She was aghast at how the country didn’t care about the poor and could do so much more through redistribution of wealth.  She was in favor of making all college education ?free? for all.  I love when liberals use that word free, but that’s for another day.  This person was also in favor of basically eliminating all defense spending in favor of other social justice programs.  While watching this for a few minutes, I just kept thinking about how I wished we could actually implement one of these ideas just to be able to witness how wrong headed it would be.  Wouldn’t it be great to be able to actually model a political concept and simulate how it would play out over decades?  Using the massive power of modern computing, the scientist can model the human genome and the ebola virus, and the effect of a nuclear explosion on the surroundings, but we haven’t been able to figure out how to model something as seemingly simplistic as the behavior of an economy given various inputs?  I realize it’s not simple, but come on!

We even have existing data that we can base the model on – The Welfare System! It’s not as if this is 1964 and we don’t know how destructive this idea of government handouts will be.  We have 50 years of data showing that the rate of poverty won’t change no matter how many trillions of dollars are wasted.  We have 50 years’ worth of data that shows how welfare has destroyed those it was supposed to help.  We have data showing how this government intervention has destroyed generations of Americans and how it’s contributed to the dissolution of the family, etc., etc.  Not to mention the fact all of this wonderful government intervention has brought us to the brink of financial insolvency.

We have something else as well:  for the first 190 years of our Republic, we became the greatest nation on the face of this earth using nothing but private charity to help those in need.  During that period, the US became a force for good and we did it without any government interference.  As a country, the USA has thrived when we held true to the ideals that the founding fathers brought forth.  We are now collapsing under the weight of this insane, unconstitutional behemoth of a government.

How hard would it be to simply use all this data to chart a way out?  How can any liberal ?thinker? see what their ideas have wrought and not be humbled and ashamed?  Just model it!

My thoughts anyway..
