I’m convinced 90% of politicians, be they your local alderman, or US congressman or senator, are the wrong people for the job. The modern day politician cares nothing about what’s best for his/her country in the long term, only what they believe will get them reelected to the next term or to the next higher office.
What happened to the part time politician that our founding fathers envisioned? You know, the one that took time off from running a business or taking care of a family to spend a few weeks handling the pressing business of government. Don’t tell me it’s because life has become more complex. Our modern life is only more complex because the self-serving political class has molded it just so!! How many ridiculous, destructive regulations are implemented each year? How many new bureaucrats are hired to oversee the ever expanding political fiefdoms created by these career ?public servants?? It’s just insane! A modern day politician’s whole objective is to make him or herself seem important or caring. Please! Welcome to the United States of America, circa 2015.
Another facet of the modern politician that fascinates me is the hard line each candidate (aren’t they always candidates?) is locked in to. Be it Democratic or Republican, the parties are so committed to their hard line core principles there is no room for a moderate. I want the Democrats out of my wallet and the Republicans out of my bedroom. How’s that for a political slogan? Leave us the hell alone already!
At what point in history did the power hungry narcissists seize control of the country’s leadership? More importantly, when do we take it back? I’m afraid that we, as a nation, are so distracted that it might be too late already. I truly hope I’m wrong, but what evidence is there that we are anywhere close?
