There is no doubt that income inequality is a huge and growing problem in the USA. The middle class is absolutely critical to our country’s success and the wages for Middle American have been falling for over a decade. I could reel off stat after stat that proves the point, but there needs to be concerted effort to bridge the income divide. As the gap between the haves and have not’s widens, our country faces a crisis that threatens to undermine everything that we’ve built.
Here is where your average economic journalist, or Nobel Prize winner, would start railing against capitalism and heap praise on a ?progressive approach? to solve all our problems. You know like redistribution of wealth or free health care and free college for all! Hooray for free stuff! I love free stuff! The only problem is these programs have been proven to fail over and over again. How many societies have fallen victim to socialistic tendencies and utterly failed to lift their citizenry out of the malaise? And what about the inevitable collapse that occurs when overwhelming debt ruins the economy?
I’ve written before about how I believe we’ve already reached the tipping point where populist politics have created a majority, entitled class that believes they should be given all they desire, no matter what. Simply put, the progressive politicians, in their insatiable desire to retain power, have actually created this ever expanding group of parasites, even though they know that doing so will hurt us all in the long run. No one can convince me that every liberal politician in the last 40 years hasn’t been able to see where we are heading and decided to continue to make promises. I say the last 40 years because there may have been a time when these progressive policies weren’t proven completely ineffective and dangerous during the first few decades, but certainly they have been proven totally fruitless since then.
So what to do about this income inequality? Return to what made us great, that’s what! Remove the government from our lives at every level. Remove the disincentive to work and create by repealing generational welfare. While there should be a safety net, there should be hard limits on every form of means tested handouts, period. There will be no more corporate handouts or farmers being paid not to produce, or crony capitalism of any kind. The lunacy stops now! The government shouldn’t be involved in the economy, period. Does anyone believe that Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac weren’t directly responsible for the economic collapse in 2008? Of course they were! You want a home that you can’t afford? No problem! We’ll just buy all the worthless mortgages, package them up and back them with the full faith and credit of the US and sell them to the world? Great idea guys! And who said that we should never let a good crisis go to waste? The government comes in and saves the day by creating more departments and more regulations and more taxes and more nonsense. The same thing happened during the Great Depression. The government will save the day! Let’s create a monstrous bureaucracy and put people to work doing nothing! Hooray! We’ve all seen where that series of decisions led. When will we learn? Probably never.
Stay out of our lives and we’ll figure out what makes the economy grow and how to bring back the middle class.
