Slavery – Past and Present

Slavery in any form is an awful thing.  From an American perspective, the period where blacks were held as slaves, and bought and sold like cattle remains the worst stain on our existence, in my opinion.

I can imagine from a black person’s perspective it must be worse!  Even after slavery officially ended, being told that you are less than a whole person for purposes of voting must have been so degrading.  I simply can’t understand the true perspective of a black person who lived through slavery and even well into the 20th century.  It wasn’t until the civil rights laws were passed in the 1960’s that blacks truly had legal parity with non-blacks.  Obviously being a non-black person you can’t really understand what blacks went through, but we can certainly empathize to the best of our collective ability.

That is why I’m so confused as to the condition of so many blacks in the 21st century.  So we know that generations of blacks fought so hard to remove themselves from the shackles of slavery, but why then have so many blacks returned to a quasi-slave state in modern America?  What I mean is that these modern blacks are now slaves to the government and to the politicians who continue to insist that blacks can’t compete without a helping hand.  It’s not physical chains, but being unable to exist without someone continuously providing for you seems almost as demoralizing.  These modern inner city blacks are slaves to their situations just as 18th and 19th century slaves were to the plantation owners.  The only difference is that modern blacks could easily extricate themselves from their dilemma if given the incentive to do so. The incentive would be as simple as to stop rewarding reckless behavior that effectively enslaves generation upon generation of poor Americans.

Modern blacks and other minorities have incredible opportunities in this country!  There are literally dozens of laws that are designed to provide extra opportunity for non-whites.  Almost every company in this country would absolutely love to hire more qualified minorities!  The problem is that too many families are so entrenched in the welfare/woe is me mentality that they’ll never be able to climb out.  They are continually told they are victims and that the Democrats will save them.  Common sense would seem to indicate that 50 plus years of Democratic Party degradation would prove the folly of it, but there is always someone else to blame, right?  We’ll blame the rich, then we’ll blame the police, then we’ll blame an unjust society, then we’ll blame the Republicans, then we’ll blame those foreigners taking all the jobs, and on and on it goes.  How truly sad!

Currently it’s ?income inequality? and the police. Those are the troubles du jour. And what is the solution to these vexing problems?  Well rioting, of course!  Yes, let’s riot and destroy our own neighborhoods and the businesses that employ our neighbors.  And let’s get that piece of garbage ?Reverend? Al Sharpton to rail against America and all who don’t provide more handouts to these poor underprivileged youth!  Yeah, that will solve everything?.  Right!

It is time to pull our collective heads out of our butts, and reverse this awful trend toward slavery by government. Before it’s too late.
