Welfare Sucks!

What would be the perfect policy blueprint for the nation?  Over the next few weeks, I’m going to weigh in even though I would never consider running for any public office. I don’t think I could ever get the stench off of my clothing if I had to go through what these politicians have to put themselves through to get elected…  Interestingly enough, if this blueprint was put into place, there would be no real reason to have to protect yourself with the purchase of precious metals, so I’d probably be out of business.  That’s right, the economy would be so strong and the country so healthy that only the citizens of other nations would be craving the security of precious metals.  So my ideas would be great for the nation as a whole, but bad for me.  Wouldn’t it be refreshing for a politician to actually put the needs of the nation before their own?  Sounds nice, but never gonna happen.

Part 1: Welfare

Since it’s so destructive, I’d act to completely obliterate the welfare state within 5 years.  This includes all corporate welfare.  How did we survive and thrive for our first 150 years without welfare if it was so important?  The answer is we took care of each other!  Let me say that again – we took care of each other! We took care of each other through private charities, including food banks and dozens of specialized charitable organizations.  We took care of each other through our religious institutions and their charitable wings too.  We helped our neighbors who were down on their luck.  We took care of our family members to needed a hand.  Wow!  Sounds pretty good doesn’t it?  We also realized that having children that we couldn’t take care of would lead to dire circumstances and most of us didn’t do it.  Just look at the out of wedlock birth rate since 1965, when welfare was officially created.  It’s skyrocketed! And don’t tell me that there isn’t a direct correlation between the dissolution of the family and poverty and crime and drug use, etc.  These are all a direct result of the implicit condoning of reckless behavior through the payment of taxpayer money to those who don’t deserve it.  There is no other way to put it.  Welfare is essentially condoning stupid behavior and inhibiting the growth of the economy by taking from the productive, working class and redistributing to the reckless, lazy class.

Corporate welfare is just as destructive only in a different way.  Think of all the examples we experience every day: price controls on most farm products through direct payments to farmers for not growing certain crops; the manipulation of the supply of milk and eggs and dozens of other commodities through the wholesale destruction of these products once they are produced.  How about farm subsidies in general?  The family farm is going extinct because of all the taxpayer money being paid to these massive, corrupt government/industrial farms for essentially doing nothing!  It’s such a scam, but nobody seems to care.

Crony capitalism, which has seen hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars flushed down the toilet over just the last few decades, is also a heinous form of corporate welfare.  How are we the people ok with our government picking and choosing which businesses succeed and which ones fail based on how connected the founders of these companies are to the current administration?  It’s disgusting to see how corrupt our government has become and how little any of us seem to care!   When did it become OK for the government to subsidize private business?  Really, when did this happen, because it’s certainly not constitutional.

Welfare of any kind just saps the energy from our economy.  In doing so, it also creates generations of useless people who will never reach their full potential, and businesses who can’t compete in a true capitalist system.  Welfare has succeeded in creating generations who think the government’s job is to take care of them no matter how stupidly they act.  Fascinating to be sure!
