I truly dislike Donald Trump as a person! He's obnoxious and arrogant, which are two of the most loathsome properties I can think of in a human being. The problem, if you want to call it that, is that I agree with most of what he stands for. I agree that the government is a total disaster and that politicians for the most part are totally self-absorbed and care nothing about what is good for the country that I love. I agree that the border is a total disgrace that that we must stop illegal immigration immediately. I don't think that mass deportation is even remotely possible, so why even go there. I love the fact that he's not beholden to any special interest, and that he speaks what he believes without regard for what the media or his critics think.
So where does that leave us? Do I vote for Trump in the primary (I'm a registered Independent)? What about in the general election, if he makes it that far? I suppose the answer is very dependent on his competition, but in general I would lean toward voting for him in the general election even though it would pain me to do it. What do the Democrats have to offer? Hillary Clinton is a dishonest, arrogant, narcissist, whom I wouldn't vote for any reason. Bernie Sanders is an admitted socialist. Sorry, a “Democratic Socialist”. Excuse me? What is wrong with Vermont? I truly wonder if we are beyond saving as a nation when a socialist can hold one of the highest offices in the land.
As for the Republicans and the primary, I do very much like Dr. Carson and Carly Fiorina, both non politicos. The rest of the field doesn't inspire me, even though Governor Walker has done a very nice job here in Wisconsin.
What happens if Trump wins the Republican nomination? Does he even have a slim chance to win the presidency? Not if you believe the polls. The Latinos hate him because he wants to uphold the law and maintain order on the border. The blacks won't vote for him because he's not for handouts and political correctness. The liberal establishment won't vote for him because he makes too much sense and won't oblige their liberal guilt.
We desperately need a major shakeup in Washington, and maybe, just maybe Trump would be the man to do it. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens over the next 6 months.
