Texas is the latest, but other states have in the past expressed a desire to secede from the union. Just suppose that Texas voted overwhelmingly to secede, just like the South did after Lincoln (The first Republican) was elected. The U.S. Constitution is a 'positive' document, and contains nothing that is 'negative' such as 'states cannot do this', or 'citizens cannot do that', or 'government cannot do something.' The Constitution tells what government does, not what it cannot do. The Bill of Rights and other Amendments say nothing about secession, and one Supreme Court decision over a hundred years ago, (Texas vs White – 1868), saying that a state cannot secede was not based on the Constitution but on shallow opinions of a majority of justices at that time. Therefore, there is NOTHING in the U.S. Constitution which prohibits secession, and that's why Lincoln went to war. He knew the seceded states had a right to do just that. Lincoln violated the U.S. Constitution dozens of times with his war which killed over 600,000 Americans.
Contrary to some opinion, the Texas Constitution does not have a 'secession' clause in it, so in order to secede, there would have to be an overwhelming voter authorization for it to happen, and an overwhelming legislature vote for approval. I doubt that such a vote would occur today, without a massive public relations campaign, which would appeal to voters and legislators. What would be the problems with secession? Not many, and especially when one looks at the European Union, which has 28 totally different member nations, and all of which have their own separate governments and legislatures. They all have one common currency though, which means that a seceded Texas or other state could continue to use the U.S. dollar. In the E.U., travel between the various member states is unrestricted, and no passports are needed to travel from France to Germany, as an example. Their languages are different, but currency is common as is travel and trade. Obviously then, a Republic of Texas, would allow free travel and trade between it and the rest of the enslaved states who chose not to join the freedom movement.
What would be the advantages of say Texas seceding? Ever so many, and if Texans realized it, they would scramble to write their legislators and start a vote campaign. Just imagine not having any federal bureaucracy to harass and tax you! No IRS, no EPA, no Department of Education, no ATF, FBI, or any of the over 200 federal bureaucracies, which are all unconstitutional anyway, but which continue to multiply and cost ever more every year. Would Texans love to have their alcohol 40% cheaper? Would they love to have their fuels 40 cents per gallon cheaper? Would Texans love to not be involved in being the policeman of the world and its huge costs? Texas pays far more to the fed than it ever gets back in benefits, so the money would stay in Texas and be administered by Texans. Texas would certainly deport all illegals, and its Constitution would not have a 14th Amendment in it allowing 'anchor babies.' It's doubtful that there would be a 'press one for English' or ballots in other than English. Texas would control its borders and no illegals would enter the new 'Republic of Texas." Texans would love to be close to and control their legislative process, and have it in Texas, rather than in far away Washington D.C. where their votes now, cannot change anything.
The Republic of Texas would certainly love to trade with others in the United States, and welcome them as tourists. Texans would welcome new residents, after they proved that they would be an asset to Texas, and not wanting to move there because of lower taxes or other benefits a free and independent Republic of Texas would become. The Republic of Texas would sell oil, food, minerals, and anything they produced, and buy what they wanted from others, without tariffs. It would be a privilege to move to the Republic of Texas, and entry would be not to worthless 'hangers on', non productive, lazy, worthless, welfare recipients, public housing residents, and leeches from outside Texas. The Republic of Texas, may or may not have a welfare system, as was started here by Franklin Roosevelt 80 years ago, and which system has constantly enlarged itself ever since. The Republic of Texas, probably wouldn't have endless bureaucracies to harass its citizens with, and it might become so efficient, that it would have no government debt of any kind.
The benefits as opposed to the problems with secession are astronomical. Just imagine paying no more federal taxes on your food, fuel, income, property, corporation, utilities, communications, highway, inheritance, or any of hundreds of other federal taxes which have been attached to just about every consumable item there is. It boggles the mind. Obviously, if Texas or another state decided to secede, and voted to do so, both popularly and legislatively, the D.C. center of harassment and throttling bureaucracy would have a fit, and it would undoubtedly go to the Supreme Court, but so what? Would Washington send troops to Texas as in the War of Northern Aggression? It is doubtful, and I am sure no soldier would shoot at a Texan who wanted freedom. It would have to happen, regardless of a Supreme Court decision, because there is nothing in the Constitution preventing it, and besides Texas had already seceded, so it would have its own Supreme Court, as it already does anyway, and would not be bound by a 'foreign' court.
As in the European Union, travel and trade between the new Republic of Texas and the rest of the United States would be free and unhindered Exports to the rest of the states would probably be very good, because factories and farms in Texas would not have huge costs levied on everything by the D.C. gang. If Texas really got stared in a secession movement, other states would surely do the same, and Congress might be so alarmed that it might throw out about 75% of the worthless bureaucrats and bureaucracy, balance its budget, and behave itself. Maybe several states beginning a secession movement, and meaning it, might be all that is needed. That is doubtful, but Texas should do it!
As I write this, many nations, including Obama, are assembled to try to pass laws and rules about what is probably the greatest fraud in human history…earth warming. THERE IS NO EARTH WARMING. TEMPERATURES HAVE REMAINED UNCHANGED FOR 17 YEARS! CARBON DIOXIDE IS WONDERFUL AND MAKES OXYGEN EXUDING PLANTS AND TREES THRIVE. If you repeat a lie often enough, people will begin to believe it.
