Black Lives

I recently read an article written by a local black activist.  This woman is totally convinced that in today’s America, black lives don’t matter. Her whole premise is based on historical injustice and she describes in detail many of the reasons she believes we are still a horrible racist nation.

She begins her exhaustive list by explaining that slavery meant that black lives didn’t matter.  She then goes on to mention Jim Crow laws and lynching’s carried out in the South, followed by the Tuskegee experiments, and how that meant that black lives didn’t matter.  So far, so good, right?  I agree that slavery and Jim Crow and segregation were all examples of black people being wronged (to put it mildly) by the government of this country.

But here is where this woman loses her high ground.  She goes on to say that when gangs take over housing projects, black lives don’t matter.  Huh?  Black people are the ones in the gangs!  Black people are the ones who’ve put themselves in a position of having to live in housing projects because of the choices they’ve made!  How about this doozy? When black people can’t get government jobs, black lives don’t matter.  What are you talking about? Blacks make up 21% of the US Post Office.  That is a huge discrepancy based on their roughly 12% of the population.  Blacks make up 17% of the overall federal workforce.  Again, where does she  come up with this stuff?

The author goes on to say that the high unemployment rates and high level of poverty mean that black lives don’t matter, but whose fault it that?  It sure as hell isn’t mine!  Don’t have kids you can’t take care of. How about that for a solution to all your problems?  How about getting educated?  Why do blacks continue to vote for Democrats who want nothing more than the status quo, which is more handouts and failing schools, etc?  How about Charter schools and vouchers?  These are ideas that would make a tremendous difference in the education of black youth, but the Democrats, who are controlled by teachers unions, won’t touch those will they?  Blacks and other minorities have demonstrable advantages when it comes to college admissions too, so don’t give me that crap about having no opportunities.

There is no question that blacks have been treated unfairly in the past, but NOTHING can change that!  If we could snap our fingers and undo all of the historical injustices, we would!  What good does it do to feel sorry for yourselves?  The black family is collapsing and that is leading to chaos in their communities.  Are blacks blaming that on whites too?  Where is the personal responsibility?  It is just so sad to see the disintegration of entire communities and what it is doing to our whole country as a result.

There are many other examples of the black lives matter crowd making hysterical statements to support their hatred of this country.  It just disgusts me that they continue to attract any sympathy from anyone!  There is nowhere else on this planet that has more opportunities for people of all colors than the USA. We are all Americans, so maybe if you didn’t self-segregate by calling yourselves African Americans, a small degree of healing would begin…  Just a thought.

I am tired of being blamed for all the problems in the black community!  I am not a racist!  Stop blaming me.  Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and make a positive difference!  Within one generation blacks could be making fantastic gains in their quality of life, but that won’t happen if they continue to blame others and make reckless decisions.  Stop it already!
