Where did the jobs go?

The general opinion is that the manufacturers, factories, and of course jobs, have all gone overseas because the Chinese work for peanuts and Bangladesh shirt makers work for maybe cracker crumbs.  At any rate, Trump is going to bring them all back to America.  Don't get me wrong, I love Donald Trump and have his bumper strips on my cars.  I hope he wins, and defeats both commies (Hillary and Sanders), because if he or Cruz (yuck) don't, America is sunk like the Titanic. ( As an aside, some rich nabob is actually building a new Titanic with every dimension, light fixture, table, etc exotically like the doomed 1912 Titanic.  Modern propulsion and lifeboats of course.  Isn't capitalism grand?  I want to book passage on it).  Sorry Donald, it isn't the low wages alone which has removed the factories and jobs from America.

First of all, America has the highest corporate tax rate in the world.  This alone would take factories and jobs overseas.  Let's suppose The Donald can reduce, or even eliminate the corporate tax burden?  That would be a healthy start, but not enough of one to bring jobs back.  We then have the mandated health care, commonly known as "Obamacare," and he would have to get rid of that also.  A good second move, but still not quite enough, because there is the Social Security, Medicare, unemployment, etc taxes which are deducted from every paycheck, part of which are paid by the employer.  Get rid of the income tax?  Trump has sworn to do something along those lines.  Then there is the Dodd-Frank affair, which complicates matters, and which law should be abolished immediately.  Now we're coming along.

If a new factory is contemplated, and Ford is saying they're going to build a $1.8 billion factory in Mexico, and they already have a couple, we now have the EPA to contend with, and that is a literal nightmare.  No EPA in Mexico.  Want to build a factory?  Good luck, because the EPA will have to approve every square inch, safety device, air quality, site, air pollution, and on and on till the would be builder could die of old age before he gets approval, or dies from a heart attack waiting and fretting over it.  A minimum of two to three years can be counted on for EPA approval, and remember, the EPA was not approved by a Congressional vote when it was formed.  The Supremes are contemplating whether a president can not enforce laws passed by Congress, or make his own laws without approval of Congress.  With Scalia dead, we can only hope reason infiltrates the liberal branch of the Court.

Labor restrictions and licensing of just about any trade or occupation, not to mention union possibilities or probabilities, make wage costs prohibitive.  Why are labor costs so high?  After all, when I was a kid, seventy five cents an hour was what I worked for, and thought I was doing well.  Inflation is the problem, and it is caused by an increase in the currency supply.  Trump is predicting a severe recession, and if this happens, under normal circumstances, the currency supply would decrease, wages and prices also go down.  This would not happen, because the fed would undoubtedly print money and give it to the banks as they have done beginning with George Bush, and continued through Obama.  The whole economic system is screwed up so badly, that like Humpty Dumpty, it probably cannot be put back together again, even with Trump's best efforts coupled with a Republican Congress.  We can hope that will happen though.  America, in short, is the most expensive place in the world to manufacture anything.

Latest polls show that Neither Trump, Cruz, Hillary, or Sanders has a very high approval rating, but then neither did Ronnie Reagan before he was elected.  If the same pollsters asked  people to gave Congress a rating, the results would be close to zero I am certain, and with good cause.  Trump is not a politician.  Cruz is, and no one in the Senate likes him.  His wife works for Goldman Sachs and co-authored a book advocating eliminating all national boundary lines, among other horrors.  Time will tell.  Don't hold your breath for the safety of America.  It could happen in November, at least partially.
