Who’s to Pay?

One of Trump’s most popular promises to voters, when he was running for office, was that he would “build a wall.”  That was fine, except he also promised that Mexico would pay for it.  I always had trouble with that.  It made no sense.  Suppose you had a factory or valuable property or business, and wanted to keep out thieves vandals, or anyone you wouldn’t want in the premises.  You would undoubtedly build a wall or fence to keep out undesirables.  No problem with that.  Would you expect the thieves or vandals to pay for your wall which protected you and your property?  Of course not!  If you have an alarm system on your car or home, should prospective robbers or intruders pay for your alarm systems?  Naturally not.  Is it then, any wonder, that Mexico has steadfastly refused to pay for a wall and is outraged at Trump’s insistence?  The answer is totally obvious to me, and to any logical, fair, person.  You protect yourself and pay for your protection!  An incredibly successful man such as Donald Trump, who has an enormous ego to boot, rarely changes their mind.  I wish he would tweet that he has indeed made exaggerations and said things out of line and insulting, and that he apologizes and asks for forgiveness.  Fat chance, but that one sentence said in sincerity, would solve a lot of problems.

I am ever so delighted that Donald Trump was elected, and that he seems to be keeping his campaign promises.  Great!  However, Trump has alienated many rulers of other nations because he never seems to put his brain in gear before he opens his mouth.  I know, he is rich, smart, a rousing success, and deservedly a smart ass.  No problem with that as far as a businessman is concerned, but as President, I will quote a newscaster, whose name I cannot remember, who said a few days ago, “I wish the President would begin to act like a president.”

He’s angered rulers of Australia, Mexico, China, and just about anyone he has had contact with, by running his mouth in a very un-presidential manner.  It started when he first announced his candidacy by informing us that Mexico was importing rapists, diseased, criminals, drug dealers, etc.  Maybe partially true, but it didn’t set well with Mexico.  He continued on, seemingly with every speech, insulting someone, nation, or ruler.  With Meghyn Kelly it was inexcusable.  Trump has exaggerated over and over again with his Tweets, and has become the laughing stock of many, not counting making Democrats so angry that they will continue to do everything in their power to remove him or even impeach him.  They will succeed in neither, but he has brought so much of it on himself.

I love the guy!  I sent him money, and was thrilled when he won, but the 9th Circuit Court, when they upheld the Washington judge’s ruling, did so because the Executive Order was so poorly written, that is was absurd.  As an afterthought, Trump included Green Card holders.  Who wrote that order, some third grader?  Trump’s Presidency can indeed save the union and, “Make America Great Again,” but he’s got to get himself under control.  I know, the democrats are totally upset that he won and they lost, but the demonstrations everywhere now, are because of that absurd Executive Order, which should have stopped refugees, but not travel.  People who had been vetted and were actually in the air on their way to America, with passports and all problems solved, were taken into custody when they landed.

Can’t someone turn off Trump’s Tweeter?  Surely, as intelligent as he is, someone can convince him that he’s hurting his Presidency and America as well, with his continual blasts and off the cuff observations, which far too many times, are wrong or vastly exaggerated.  I hate to write a column such as this, but I love America and I hate watching a possible savior of this great land, self destruct because he can’t control himself.  I have lots of thoughts which I would never broadcast, as does Donald Trump, but he’s the President, and should stop and think before he tweets, speaks, or writes.
