An ongoing question over the many years I have been doing this, often is, “Where do I store the stuff?” I tell then “store it where no one would think of looking.” Then they say that if they buried it, someone may come by with a metal detector and find it. OK then, ‘bury it under a sewer pipe or under something metal.’
I am reminded of a friend named Wiley Carmack whose father buried all his coins and things in the ground around his house, and forgot where it was buried. Dig, dig, dig. I am sure he found it eventually, but the lesson learned is to mark it where you buried it, draw a map, and be sure to leave it with your kids in case you die. Then there is the fake electrical outlet, which isn’t an outlet at all, but secret place to store gold maybe, but not silver, as it is too big. Looks exactly like an outlet, except you can’t plug anything into it, and if someone tried, that would be a give-away.
Years ago, I had a client who used Old Spice stick deodorant, and he proudly told me that he could store 30 Krugerrands in an empty container, keep it in the medicine cabinet and no one would look for it there. In the 40 years I have been doing this, I have had lots of great phone conversations about everything at one time or another. A friend of mine’s mother bought a light weight, cheap little safe, put money in it and stored under her bathroom sink in the cabinet. It is so light that anyone could easily pick it up and break into it later. She doesn’t have any gold or silver, so it probably has paper dollars in it, making it even lighter. Don’t be stupid and waste your money on one of those.
Before we go on any further, just be smart and tell no one that you have bought gold and silver. It’s none of their business and if you want to brag, tell them the usual lie about how many fish you caught last week.
A gun safe is close to a thousand bucks for a good one, and empty will weight maybe 200-300 pounds. I don’t know if it is extremely waterproof or not. Ask someone in Houston. Not to be coarse, but the Houston flood is tragic. Tens of thousands of people lost everything they owned…maybe. If they had gold and silver in a gun safe, guess what? They didn’t lose it. Maybe it leaked, I don’t know, but the real money in the form of gold and silver are still there and won’t rust. Maybe a few people lost almost everything, but their real money was in a gun or other safe, and they still have it. Gun safes are fire proof till 1300 degrees usually, and that is plenty. No one is going to steal a gun safe, and especially if it has a lot of silver in it. I have a gun safe and two other small ones that are extremely heavy ad well hidden, but the gun safe is in plain view. I have so many guns and a sophisticated alarm system as well, that if anyone tried to rob me, first of all they are on camera, and secondly they’ll probably die as I have guns everywhere. Loaded. A gun safe is handy, pretty, and can be placed in a conspicuous place, because it is attractive. Tell inquisitors you have important papers and insurance policies in it, or guns, but not gold and silver.
Now for the important part when buying a gun safe. Do this, by all means! Borrow someone else’s pickup truck or rent one and pay cash for the safe. Do not give anyone your name. Go in your pickup and write a check, and guess what? Lots of people know you have one, and where you live. Be smart people! You’re smart enough to protect yourself with real money in the form of gold and silver, so be also smart and store it well, and unknown to anyone but you, and maybe your kids if you become seriously ill. – Don Stott 1-888-786-8822
