Friday, March 23, 2018, saw hundreds of thousands of protesters parading across America. They were everywhere, protesting guns, the NRA, and demanding new laws, as if there weren’t enough already, which I am certain there are. All this outrage came a month after 17 students and adults were killed in a Parkland Florida high school by a 19 year old non-student, who had been on the local sheriff’s list of problems for weeks, after having been called to visit the criminal’s home some 20 times. The same Sheriff’s deputies stood outside, while the killing went on inside, and the school’s paid, armed, deputy, also was outside, rather than inside where he was paid to be. In the month since the 17 were killed in Parkland, another school shooting not in Florida, resulted in the paid deputy killing the shooter, and two students injured. Yet on Sunday mornings’ NPR radio, The Scott Simon, the broadcaster said, ”There is a school shooting every couple of weeks.” Really?
Why were there no mass protests after 34 grade schoolers were killed in Connecticut, or a few in Colorado a few years ago? Who paid for the transportation, organization, signage, and publicity in last Friday’s mass demonstrations? I’d be willing to bet that fat cat liberal Hollywooders and other lefties, took a few of their millions and billions to sponsor these events. Kids are easily influenced, as opposed to, hopefully, are responsible adults. Guns have never killed anyone, and neither have baseball bats, knives, automobiles, trains, etc. either, but rather those who used them. We’ve been through that before, but consider the following: There are over 101,000 public schools in America, plus thousands of private, religious and other schools, not counting home schools. There are over 50 million kids in public schools, and millions more in the rest. In the last ten years, there have been perhaps less than two hundred kids killed in school shootings, while over 40,000 die on highways each year, 60,000 from opioids alone, plus hundreds of thousands from other drugs, legal and illegal, over 100,000 in hospitals, doctors who miss-prescribe, tens of thousands of drownings, suicides, stranglings, mental abuse, and other causes of fatalities. Where were those mass protests? Deaths and taxes happen to everyone, so the saying goes, and silly demonstrations can’t stop the inevitable.
The National Rifle Association’s members have never killed anyone other than in self defense, and as far as the law is concerned, a recent survey I read, said that only 11% of murders and other mayhem, were committed with legally obtained guns. There are over 800,000 police in America, not counting county sheriffs and deputies, and a whole range of law enforcement employees. Statistics show that blacks shooting other blacks compromise a majority of shootings in America, and other statistics show that white cops shoot far more whites than blacks, even though blacks between the ages of 15 and 30 commit close to half of America’s crime. Any policeman shooting anyone, must submit to a thorough investigation, and even pulling a gun out of an officer’s holster requires a detailed report. Law enforcement has gotten so much better as each year passes, that they deserve our sincere vote of thanks. The regular demonstrations which occur when a white cop shoots a black man are as regular as clockwork, but never when a black or white cop shoots a white man. Friday’s mass protests were absurd, and there was nothing to protest, since schools are much safer than school busses, homes, highways, or any other place in America.
The boisterous juvenile protesters shouted that they are ‘afraid to go to school,’ which is utter nonsense. Schools are probably the safest places to be in America! The chances of a school kid being shot in America, are one in 625,000. Traveling to and from school is far more dangerous than being in school. The safest place on earth, has to be Switzerland, where every household and male is required own a firearm, be trained to use it, and have ammunition as well. Crime in schools, or anywhere in Switzerland, is so rare as to be virtually unknown. Highways are probably the most dangerous to be in America, not schools, and a huge majority of highway deaths are not deliberate, but due to alcohol and carelessness. Ever notice that 99% of terrorism throughout the earth, seems to be committed by Muslims? And this is hundreds of thousands of times more than school shootings. ‘Gun free” zones are maybe responsible for a lot of shootings, because the shooter can feel safe from being interfered with in such places. Background checks need to be improved, and the process was begun before the 17 deaths in Florida. Close to a million kids flooding streets, and not a single sign urging better background checks, or armed teachers and staff. I saw no signs in the mass media coverage urging more, or thanking law enforcement. I wonder who footed the bills blaming guns, and not the criminals using them? The hundreds of thousands of kids flooding America’s streets last Friday, mostly were too young to vote or do anything but go to school and live with parents, yet they think they can change America? I hope not! – Don Stott – 1-888-786-8822
