Dollar Doomed?

On and on it goes:  It’s not difficult to find a site on the internet which will groan and swear that the U.S. economy and dollar is trash, and within a few weeks or months, it’ll all be over.  As a WWII general (McAuliffe) replied, when asked to give up and surrender, he gave a one word answer.  It was, “NUTS.”  The Germans didn’t know what that meant, so it had to be interpreted, but they eventually got the message.  To those who say the U.S. is economic toast, I say also:  “Nuts.”  Why nuts?  Because the U.S. dollar is still the world’s reserve currency, we’re the richest nation on earth, with the strongest military, we have the highest standard of living, and above all, in spite of ever growing bureaucracy, we’re still ‘free.’  Free to vote and elect our representatives, senators and president on the national level, plus thousands of others at various government levels.  We have thousands of radio and TV stations, cell phones which will give you an answer to any question, the internet, and it is all so wonderful in America.

Our national debt is outrageous?  Certainly!  But not as high as most of the rest of the earth’s nations, GDP percentage wise.  Our interest payments last year were $263 billion, which is 1.4% of GDP.  Over the past 50 years, the average interest payments were 2% of GDP.  We’ve got problems.  The Democrats seem to be turning themselves into communistic socialists, and are straining at the bit to try to get Trump out of office, because they, 3 12 years later, still cannot accept the fact that he won.  We spend $1.1 trillion on welfare, which is disgusting, and is close to 30% of the taxes we collect.  I wouldn’t live in a big city, and if for no other reason, the air pollution is responsible for a loss of brain power, according to a recent study, and of course the crime and minorities make big cities undesirable, to me anyway.  You like big cities because of all the shopping and culture?  Go to it friend, I’ll take my Colorado small town of 19,000 with no severe weather, winter or summer.

There is so much wrong in America, I admit, but it is petty compared to China or Russia, or even the UK.  In London, there are sections absolutely controlled by Muslims, and a non Muslim takes his life in hand by venturing into them. Even cops are afraid to go into those sections. Dozens of cities around the world have such sections, but America doesn’t.  Our 330 million residents have close to 300 million guns, and that makes America pretty safe place!  Of all the world’s places to live, I’ll take America!  Even though we are the best in the world, we still have things like inflation, crime, pollution, hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, floods, tens of millions dying each year in traffic accidents, cancer, heart attacks, and lots of gross things every nation has, but we have less of, thankfully.

Why should you not save in dollars?  Why not?  Would you store your water in a leaky bucket?  Not a bad example of why not.  In spite of our glorious America, our dollar has lost 95% of its value and purchasing power over the last 80 years, and if that’s not a leaky bucket, give me a better comparison.  Want someone to manage your money?  They’ll charge you from one to two percent of your dollar assets, to ‘manage’ it, and won’t guarantee anything.  Manage your own assets, and put them into gold and silver, and pay nothing for ‘management.’ If you need a few bucks, we charge $25 for selling it, regardless of the amount.  A client of mine just sold a huge amount of gold and silver for a real estate deal, and he paid me $25.  He did have to ship it of course.  If something dreadful happens, you’ve got real money in your safe, and it can be sold anywhere.  To illustrate how great America is, it is damned difficult to buy gold and silver any place on earth, but here.  Why?  Because governments everywhere else, consider real money a threat to their fake money, which is run off of printing presses every minute of every day.  We’re so free here compared to anywhere else on earth, that most of us never stop and think about how glorious America really is.  In China or Russia, it is illegal and punishable by a firing squad if you write or speak against government.  There is no internet in those places, or even our most basic of freedoms.  I look out my windows as I write this, and the leaves are beginning to change, and 30 miles away, the three – 14,000 foot mountains have their first blanket of snow.  We have 300 days of sunshine, no pollution, and maybe it’s such a pretty day, I have gotten carried away.  Sorry.
