Happy St Patty’s Day you Irish. You all know the saying, ”It’s curtains for you.” It means the end. It’s all over. It may true for the Chinese, after they started another one. The filthy ‘wet markets’ are common, and they eat all sorts of animals we wouldn’t even think of consuming. That’s where it started; supposedly from bats, snakes, and other nice little creatures. The Chinese had a 5.1% inflation rate in one month before the Coronavirus they started, and now the whole world seems to be catching on. The 1918 Spanish Flu started in Southwest Kansas and spread to the rest of the world in a matter of months, killing an estimated 100 million. Back then we had no internet TV, or even radio for that matter, so communications were primitive at best. Medical technology was kind of primitive then also, so the Chinese thing may not go nearly as far as did the Spanish Flu. We will see.
However, just look at what the possibilities of this are, and it is absolutely frightening. Italy is shut down, and here in Western Colorado, the schools are shut, Telluride Ski area is down for the rest of the season, and our groceries have no meat, toilet paper. Spaghetti sauce, noodles bread, and the shelves are empty of the things we need. Probably at least a few million or more are laid off with no salary. Think of the mortgage payments which will be in default, or car payments, insurance, credit card, and other obligations which may not be paid. Think of the credit ratings going down, defaults and repossessions. It all can be traced back to President Xi, who never tells the truth about much of anything. When this started, if it had been nipped in the bud, it may never have gotten out of even one city, but oh no, let’s ignore it and hope it will go away. It didn’t.
Socialism and communism never work for very long. The Soviets finally went utterly bankrupt, and suddenly they didn’t exist. Cuba went from a happy go lucky, somewhat corrupt, prosperous nation, into a total slave state in a few years, as did Venezuela. Look at Africa and shudder. When citizens are not free to speak their feelings, print them, or broadcast them, the ‘curtains’ are being gotten ready to be pulled down. China simply hasn’t a clue as to basic ‘Economics One,’ and it will bring them down. Will America survive? Of course. Jobs will return, and the store shelves will once again be full within a short time, but the damage to us as a nation will take a bit longer to repair, and it’s all thanks to China, a closed, socialistic nation, to whom all things bad, I hope, come to them. Since it is said that 85% of our prescription medicines are made in China, I dearly hope that factories are going to be built so they will be manufactured here. The same for all things. I hope the container ships are going to be unused, and China can bite the dust. Never have I wished more. We went to Sam’s Club Saturday, and the shelves of many things were empty and people were cleaning out the place, and also with our local super market.
Disney land is closed, baseball spring training is off, and even the Grad Ole Opry was cancelled. Championship basketball was played in an empty stadium, and the highways are virtually empty it seems. A disaster here and other places, and all thanks to people, who don’t know how to handle money, and are the king of fake news. Damn them! We did nothing to start this. We have no ‘wet markets.’ Our markets are spotless, and we have refrigeration and freezers to keep our foodstuffs from spoiling and becoming bacteria loaded. We long ago put catalytic converters on our cars to keep our air clean, and our banks require repayment for loans issued. I’m sure that CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post, and the Swamp do their share of fake news, but compared to China? No comparison. Hold tight, and be patient people. We’ll survive, but I hope China won’t. Fortunately, viruses don’t like warmth, and warm and even hot weather is soon to come, which will wipe out Coronavirus. Thank goodness.
