We all have ‘ice boxes,’ as we old timers still call refrigerators. “Ice boxes,” had no moving parts, and did their job as well as could be done before refrigeration was invented. Cold goes down, and heat goes up, which is third grade science. In an ice box, ice weas placed on top, and food at the bottom. The cold from the ice went down, and kept the food as cold as a block of ice could. Modern refrigerators, are energy efficient, never need de-frosting, make ice, cold water, and freeze things nicely. We have a two door, plus a drawer refrigerator, which is even nicer than a two-door model. Ice boxes and refrigerators, have always been invented and manufactured by private industry, with no government involved, other than making some Freon illegal, costing the world trillions of dollars for no legitimate reason.
The mind of man, not a government bureaucracy, has built and constantly improved refrigerators. Suppose no one was allowed to invent or manufacture refrigerators? Only government was allowed to invent, manufacture, and sell refrigerators? Sound silly? Maybe not, if you compare refrigerators with government money, which is a controlled monopoly, and no one is allowed to make and distribute government money, without going to jail as a ‘counterfeiter.’ Let’s look at government’s care of government anything. Seven million acres of government owned national forests go up in smoke each year. Government has no deeds of titles to national Forests, but they ‘own’ them anyway. Privately owned forests, are cultivated, thinned, watered, and show a profit to their owners. Government does nothing well or efficiently, and if they had a monopoly on refrigerators, they would be very expensive, not reliable, probably wouldn’t get very cold, and have a short life span.
Ludwig von Mises, the founder of the Austrian School of Economics, defined economics basically, as “People Act.” (When I first started dealing in metals, I had the privilege of selling ten Krugerrands to his widow, back in the late 1970’s). “People Act,” just about says it all, doesn’t it? People buy and sell, invent, manufacture, patent, and invest. Since government doesn’t make refrigerators, but does make money, does it make sense to save in government money, any more than it would make sense to store food in a government refrigerator, if there was one? Government money, has lost 95% of its purchasing power over the past few decades, and loses more every day with 8.2% inflation, which some say is far more than that. If government money is bad, how about ‘government information?’ Don’t all governments actually lie, less their shortcomings and corruption be known? If government says there is a cloud threatening the earth, and we must all change our refrigeration to be safe, and it is discovered that it is a lie, is that similar to ‘climate change?’
There are literally thousands of money managers, even here in America. They claim to be able to see into the future, for a 1% charge of your net worth. To be such a manager, they must pass a government test, to prove they can predict the future, and buy or sell stocks for you, at your expense, for a yearly charge. The Federal Reserve, isn’t supposed to be run by government, but its head and officers are appointed by government, and that agency is responsible for 8.2% inflation now, and it will continue to cause more with their next meeting. Inflation is cause by Federal Reserve selling money to government which it has created out of thin air, and for which it charges interest to us taxpayers. Government takes the money, spends it wildly, to get votes, and the result is inflation. What a disaster. If government lies, exaggerates, or invents un-truths, why save in their money? Is government money, any different than any other government activity? Why save in it? Isn’t saving in government money similar to storing water in a leaky bucket? Yet, 99% of Americans think government is wonderful, and the bastion of freedom, and honesty. So they save in it, and millions think money managers can see into the future.
How about government schools? Do you trust them? They are run by government, and all statistics show that they are doing a miserable job. I was lucky, and was sent to a great private school and did the same with my kids, where possible. Remember the 55 MPH speed limit, caused by government meddling in oil prices, making it scarce? There was plenty of oil, but no one would sell it at a loss, on which government set the price, and they set the speed limit at 55 MPH to ‘save gas.’ Millions violated that law and were fined millions of dollars. Another boondoggle. Save in government money? Not me.
Donald Trump once said that if we have no borders, we have no nation. Does government control our borders, or are there millions of illegals here, not speaking our language, having no education or skills, getting free government money, schools, and health care, while destroying our nation…thanks to government.
How about the Covid 19 scam, which in my opinion, results when your immune system needs attention, not a shot or a mask. It originated in China, but still thousands of containers from China dock at out ports each week, full of Chinese made goods. Why do people buy this stull? Isn’t it logical, that of the millions of Chinese students, some might have been spies, stealing our secrets and giving them to their homeland? China has now developed an airplane which satisfies the Chinese safety board. Not our safety board. We began building planes over a hundred years ago, and in 2022, China has finally made an airplane . Whoopee! Did they steal Boeing’s 727 patents and know how, to make their new planes? What has China got, that it didn’t steal to get it? Yet we buy Chinese stuff? Not me
I don’t trust government to do anything, unless they pass a law forcing me to do it. There are no laws prohibiting me from saving my surplus assets in real money, so I do!
