The Wizard of Oz

I wrote this column 12 years ago.  Unfortunately, there is no “Tea Party” now, although we could use one.  I’d change “Obama” to “Biden,” and otherwise, it’s pretty up to date.

“In the 1939 film, “The Wizard of Oz,” Dorothy Gale, (Judy Garland), and her little dog Toto, were swept away from Aunt Em and Uncle Henry’s Kansas house in a tornado, and found themselves in a Technicolor land of Oz, with all sorts of strange things, people, and animals.  “The Wizard of Oz,” was directed by Victor Fleming, who’s other masterpiece was, “Gone With the Wind.”  The film has all sorts of angles, and was originally a political satire, written by Frank Baum in 1900.  Oz stood for ounces of gold.  Baum wrote 13 related “Oz” books, plus 35 novels, stage plays, and over 200 poems.  It seems to me that at this point, “The Wizard of Oz,” might be comparable to current idiocy and goings on in that Emerald City of Washington D.C.

“Here’s Dorothy, who might be the citizenry, looking for protection and guidance from inflation (The Wicked Witch?), and she finds herself in a strange world, where nothing seems to make any sense at all, like Washington D.C. and its House of Representatives, and Senate, plus those who cajole, bribe, and work for them.  Myriads of un-fireable, stupid bureaucrats, who are pure know-nothings, and highly paid to harass and pester us, who live in the D.C. Oz.  In the Wizard, Dorothy heads down the Yellow Brick Road, wearing the ruby slippers which will protect her, with the goal of getting to the Emerald City.  Dorothy meets the cowardly Lion, played by Bert Lahr, who was looking for courage.  He, like the rest of us who need courage, was going to get it from Professor Marvel, at the Emerald City.  They then meet the Scarecrow, played by Ray Bolger, who was in need of a brain.  He thought the Wizard would give him a brain.  Do Democrats and liberals really have a brain?  Do they really think that money from a printing press, backed by thin air, and printed recklessly, will eventually have value and save the nation from ruin?

“Jack Haley, played the rusty Tin Man, who needed a heart, which few politicians have.  They are interested in only one thing, and that is re-election, and at any cost.  Off they went, down the Yellow Brick Road, singing “We’re Off To See The Wizard , The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz…,” and dancing in all happiness as they went, just like he idiots in D.C. who put all faith in the Wizard, who has a wonderful deep voice, and promises everything.  Just like the politicians and President, who have everyone fooled.  Little Toto, who could be the Tea Party movement, pulls at the curtain hiding Professor Marvel (Frank Morgan), and uncovers the fact that he is a total fraud, twisting dials, and using smoke machines and sounds to make people think he is an all-powerful Wizard.  He has been un-covered by the Toto Tea party.

“Think about all the fraud that has been going on in D.C., fooling voters with fluff and puff, and what it has wrought on the un-suspecting, who voted for the various ‘wizards,’ throughout the years.  The “Wizards of D.C.,” would make an excellent book!  Over the years, culminating with the Obama (now Biden) Presidency, it all came to an inglorious end.  Obama (now Biden) and his Democrat, mindless cohorts, was the straw which broke the camel’s back, made the Tea Party come into existence, and expose what has been going on for decades.  The Tea party Toto, tugged at the curtain which exposed the fake Wizard, who has blinded the minds of Americans with worthless promises and robbing of the public treasury, leaving us with horrendous debts and inflation, which are impossible to pay. The Toto Tea Party, exposes the endless spending which has given us the underclass, destroyed cities, and weakened citizens who have been sullied into placing faith in un-backed promises and paper money.  A weakened populace, who have forgotten how to feed, house, and care for themselves, and who are dependent on a crooked, false, Wizard of D.C., who has nothing to offer, other than the smoke and mirrors of increasing debts and government size.

“Dorothy woke up from her dream, and found herself safe in Kansas again.  Will America wake up before it’s too late to save itself, or will dulled, complacent, virtually hypnotized by the Wizard, Americans, vote at the next election, to keep the Wizard and his crowd in, or throw the bastards out and restore America to its former glory?

“In 1991, the national debt was $3.6 trillion, and now its $14.5 trillion, $3.7 trillion having been added by Obama in just two years.  2.5 million jobs lost, and 6.5 million properties foreclosed since Obama took office.”  That was the column.

That was August, 2011 when I wrote the above, and now, the national debt is $31.5 trillion.  In 1991, gold was $362, and in 2011 when I wrote this, it was $1350.  We’ve had both Democrat and Republican presidents and congress, and even Trump, who tried to fix things for America, but it was cut short to one term.  What will happen in 2024?  I’m betting on DeSantis.
