I looked up the question, “How many federal agencies and bureaucracies are there?” The answer is that the number is “approximately 2,000,” but no one has ever been able to count them. The federal government, is the largest employer in the United States, and between the federal, state, county, and city governments, the figure must be literally, almost astronomical. Their cost is also astronomical, and those agencies, vehicles, offices, and employees, must make up literally trillions of dollars in expense. Expenses, which contribute nothing to any of us, but slow down and harass those who would add to the economy and prosperity of America.
What has all of this government gotten us? Is it prosperity, happiness, and freedom? A quick look at the headlines of any newspaper or TV news show, illustrates the results of huge governments at all levels. Among them are hundreds of thousands, if not in the millions, of homeless, who live in tents of our major cities, and I am certain will also be fixtures in smaller ones. These wretched humanoids, are rife with diseases and filth. They defecate and urinate on the streets, are totally worthless to any society, and are literally destroying major cities. The homeless, are supporting themselves with welfare, and crime. This type of ‘support,’ is causing department stores, super markets, doctors and professionals, to abandon the major cities, with workers working out of their homes, to avoid the risks of commuting to major cities. Office buildings, transportation entities, shops, restaurants, and downtown businesses and employers, are leaving or going bankrupt. OUR MAJOR CITIES ARE BEING DESTROYED. Each year, the process grows. Surely not even the liberals can deny what has happened to our cities. None of this happened a hundred years ago. The truth of this situation is simply, that the bigger governments grew, America has decayed, continues to do so, and has perhaps gone so far that a solution is impossible, other than my idea which will follow in a few paragraphs.
Thousands of police have quit, or taken early retirement, because of the dangers of doing their jobs and being castigated for doing it, or being sued. “DEFUND THE POLICE,” has had a substantial effect on law enforcement departments nation- wide. Recruitment of new officers, is not working, not to mention the lack of tourism, because of obvious danger of visiting major cities. The good intentions of the first paragraph of part one of this tirade, has set in motion, enormous governments at all levels, which are employing many tens of millions, who are not producers of wealth, but in reality, are destroying the creators of wealth, which is, any farm, business, merchandiser, wholesaler, factory worker, or employer of a commercial enterprise, operating for a profit. Everything we need, use, buy, or depend on, at their beginnings, was either grown or mined. The gold and silver Colorado Gold provides as insurance against government operations, inflations, harassments, and wealth destruction, has been mined. That’s protection for us and you, but the beginnings of all this wholesale destruction of our cities and money, is really only less than a hundred years old. Other than the two world wars, there was no inflation, and gold was at $20.67 an ounce, as other prices of various things stable, for over a hundred years. Governments were so tiny at the founding of us, that tariffs paid their entire cost.
As governments have grown, the obvious results are decay in every sector of our society. A quick glance of public schools, their cost, and results are obvious. The massive loss of jobs to China, and Japan before China, has resulted in huge factories being either empty or destroyed by vandals. Dodge Truck manufacturing, according to a Journal article, is being moved from Detroit to Mexico in the near future. Go to any big box store, or even a local shop or store, pick up an item and check where it was made, and in all probability, it was China. Ask any oldster like me, what things were like when they were kids, and they’ll tell you that schools were wonderful, everything was ‘cheap,’ compared to now, there was no public housing, most people didn’t lock their doors, government was microscopic, as was Washington D.C., where I was born and raised. I well remember taking a nickel, and buying a whole handful of penny candy. There were none of the problems we now have, and are forced to live with. Government size was microscopic, both locally, state and federal. Local and state governments have grown because of federal rules, regulations, and bureaucrats, seemingly at every street corner.
After 90 years of all this “help,” provided by politicians and the results of all the laws they have passed, what has been the results? Thousands of bureaucracies, millions of employees, rules, regulations, and wealth destruction. Vagabonds camping out on streets in major cities, a crime wave beyond description. Twenty- five cent a gallon gasoline is now close to $4.00, and the comparisons are endless. Is there a solution? It depends on who you ask. Democrats, liberals, and socialists, which are all in the same group, say that more government is needed, and more taxes to support all the needy. Conservatives will say that reduced government, lower taxes, etc. is an obvious solution, but is that a possibility? I am not at all certain.
Both Republican and Democrat politicians, are responsible for the state of America. Everyone is being protected, educated, and subsidized by government. Politicians in both parties, love the glory and prestige that comes with their offices and their pictures and interviews on TV. “Oh Senator Snort, you have helped me so much! My life is now better, since government is helping me.” Politicians love being elected and re-elected, and what better way to do it, than constantly promising and delivering more services and handouts from the public treasury? Promise more handouts, promise protection, promise regulations to stop those mean old corporations, farmers, railroads, truckers, and every outfit that hires and produces wealth. Doesn’t government generate wealth with its promises, laws and regulations? Of course not, but to liberals, they do.
When you and I spend more than our incomes, we will go bankrupt. When the federal government spends more than it takes in with taxes, it doesn’t go bankrupt, because it can increase the money supply to pay its bills, which means that everyone pays, because their money is now worth about a couple of precents of what it would buy before Roosevelt began the welfare state. Today, there are hundreds of hidden taxes on every single thing we buy, use, or need. The ‘welfare state,’ in all of its hundreds of forms, most of which are hidden, have weakened our citizenry. Why work if you get a check? Why work, if you can live in a rent? America has been bought, is being destroyed, and all this is being paid for, subsidized by, and voted for, by politicians on both sides of the aisle.
A solution? I have had one for decades, but it would never be voted upon by either party, because it would put an end to their glamourous office. Cease all welfare and handouts, and I mean all of them. Keep the current recipients on the doll, but allow no new entrants. As the recipients died, within at most, fifty years, we would be back to where we started: Free, tax free, stable money, virtually non-existent crime, law enforcement great, schools that educate, etc. Dream not. it will never happen, because it is all so simple, and KISS (keep it simple stupid), is an unknown phrase in D.C. Some have said that maybe we should bomb D.C. out of existence, but that is not at all necessary. Just destroy its power gradually, as my idea would do. But for goodness sakes, stop saving in their dollars. Spend them, but never save in them. A couple of nations in the world, now have from 40% to 100% inflation, which means that in their currencies, gold and silver have gone up as fast or maybe even faster than their prices on everything. Real Estate mortgages, if youy need one, and I hope you don’t will be at 7.5% interest, compared to less than half under Trump, and the same with a lot of other things.
