I know, gold was $20.67, but that is nothing, compared to what America was like a hundred years ago. Imagine what we DIDN’T have then, and wonder how we ever got along. I think it must have been wonderful.
There was no television. Radio was in its infancy, and there was no FM. There were no automatic transmissions, solid state ignition, power steering, brakes, cruise control, air bags, air conditioning, power windows, safety glass, seat belts, tinted windows, tubeless tires, four-wheel drive, multi-grade oils, electric windshield wipers, windows and door locks, and this is just on cars and trucks.
A hundred years ago, people who wanted to come to us, had to go through Ellis Island, be in good health and have a sponsor and a job waiting. Those that didn’t qualify, were sent back to their origin.
A hundred years ago, there were no interstate highways, Social Security, self-serve gas stations, diesel or electric cars and trucks, and for that matter, not even any pickups. No public housing, welfare, government subsidies, drive-through retailing and food. No credit cards, ‘smart’ phones, free long-distance, and no satellites of any kind. No foreign cars or goods, meter measurements, calculators, computers, high fidelity, stereo, showers, (everyone had a bathtub only), super-efficient hot water heaters and furnaces, central air conditioning, accurate battery clocks, fluorescent lights, LED light bulbs, bar graph pricing, microwave ovens, non-stick pots and pans, ATV’s, jet planes, endless battery powered tools, electric blankets and heating pads, X-rays, virtually painless dentistry and medical treatments, vitamins, plastic bottles, foam rubber, neon signs, safe downtowns, pollution free air, great department stores in major cities, freeways, and the list is perhaps almost endless. All of these, are still with us, and of course, have been vastly improved, thanks to American brains, freedom, and what is known as “capitalism.” Wonderful improvements in the above, came about with huge effort known as “Capitalism,” freedom from government, and other wonderful things. There are many things we also didn’t have as are listed below
Continuing what we DIDN’T have a hundred years ago, but we do now, in huge quantities: High taxes, $34 trillion federal debt, millions of government employees at all levels, endless bureaucracy, millions of homeless and illegals, hundreds of federal offices and cabinet positions, inflation, crime without end, racism, school and other mass shootings. A hundred years ago, we didn’t have what currently seems to be perpetual vandalism, graffiti, robberies, rapes, murders, and un-solved crimes. A hundred years ago, we didn’t have, but now suffer from, failed schools which don’t educate, rampant venereal disease, huge illiteracy, illegals by the millions, filthy air. A hundred years ago, single-parent families were virtually un-known, and atheism was rare. Now, illegals cross our borders by the millions, and without effort. That’s enough of what we didn’t have, but have in hideous abundance currently.
All of the previous paragraph, I contend, are simply gradual chain reactions to what began in 1933, with the election of Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and a Democrat companion Congress. The simple reason for all of the above, are wrapped in two simple words: “DEFICIT SPENDING,” and continuously doing so ever since, and without let up, by both parties. America would suffer a major depression, beginning in 1929, and there would be enormous unemployment, some say 25%. FDR was determined to get America out of that depression. The only way he could think of doing this, was to spend, spend, spend, and this spending, was heartedly approved by his Democrat Congress. Still, in 1941 the depression continued, in spite of the endless spending, proving that it didn’t work. Deficit spending, still doesn’t work or improve us, but gradually destroys us. World War Two, got us out of the depression, with 50% inflation, but the damage had a great start in the previous eight years, plus the war, and the chain reaction continues today, at ever increasing, debilitating speed. My observation of our nation’s gradual decay, is easily proven. Just look about you.
In the past 91 years, after FDR was elected, every increase in government, every deficit, every foreign aid, every war, every handout, every “help,” every “ear mark,” every “executive order,” every “public housing project,” every handout, foreign aid, supplement, bought vote, and thousands of other spending; has put another nail in our national coffin, and increased everything in the above paragraph. “The more of anything there is, the less they will be worth,” and of course this is the dollar, with continual printing over 91 years, has made it virtually worthless. The fact that the printing has to go through Congress and the Federal Reserve, doesn’t stop it.
Roosevelt’s Social Security, has destroyed savings, and is bankrupt. Eisenhower’s Interstate highways, while convenient, have destroyed railroad passenger trains, and 50% of its freight train traffic. As a result, hundreds of small towns have ceased to exist, as they were bypassed by interstates, and now there are hundreds of thousands of 18-wheel, 85,000 pound tractor-trailers, clogging the interstates, getting 6 miles per gallon, with one driver giving Incredible inefficiency, and high cost of transportation. One locomotive engineer, can run a 20,000 ton train effortlessly, with steel wheel on steel rail efficiency, and a maximum of 2% grades. Are we better off now?
Any solutions to our mess, would be like putting Numpty Dumpty back together again, or solving a million-piece jigsaw puzzle. Are we going to make single parent families, two parent families? Are we going to stop politicians from voting ‘yes,’ to things which keep them in office? Are we going to stop presidents from issuing executive orders? Are we going to re-build abandoned steel mills, factories, make cities safe, and stop welfare? Are we going to stop government from lying to us?
All we can do is protect ourselves with gold and silver, possibly move out of a big city, to a small town, where violence doesn’t occur, and be debt free. In other words, there is no solution. Sorry!
